Diabetes is a major global public health issue.The prevalence of type 1 diabetes is comparatively static,as hereditary and genetic causes are involved,while type 2 diabetes(T2D)prevalence is increasing day by day.T2D is associated with chronic complications,including diabetic neuropathy(DN),nephropathy,retinopathy,and other complications like diabetic foot.DN is the main complication of both types of diabetes.DN can be diagnosed by routine laboratory tests,microalbuminuria>300 mg/24 h,and a gradual decrease in glomerular filtration rate.As the appearance of microalbuminuria is a late manifestation,an early marker for renal damage is needed.Lipocalin-2,also known as neutrophil gelatinaseassociated lipocalin(NGAL),is a small protein purified from neutrophil granules and a good marker for kidney disease.NGAL is a transporter protein responsible for many physiological processes,such as inflammation,generation of the immune response,and metabolic homeostasis.NGAL has been reported to depict the early changes in renal damage when urine microalbumin is still undetecable.Therefore,elucidating the role of NGAL in detecting DN and understanding its mechanism can help establish it as a potential early marker for DN. 展开更多

烟气流量是衡量烟草生产质量和效率的重要指标,流量测量的准确程度直接关系着烟气流量的经济效益。传统的流量测量方法是以经验或手写数据为基础,通过对烟气的物理和化学成分分析来确定其分布范围。这种检测方式存在着诸多不足,无法准... 烟气流量是衡量烟草生产质量和效率的重要指标,流量测量的准确程度直接关系着烟气流量的经济效益。传统的流量测量方法是以经验或手写数据为基础,通过对烟气的物理和化学成分分析来确定其分布范围。这种检测方式存在着诸多不足,无法准确描述烟气流量在流动过程中的变化。而空间坐标系具有时间维度大、测量精度高等特点,因此利用传统方法计算出的结果存在一定程度上主观性。针对这些问题,文章提出了基于多点阵列式烟气流量测量的方法,该方案采用的是空间坐标系和时间域相结合的分析方式实现对烟汽流场进行标定。文章对多点阵列式烟气流量测量系统进行分析论述,结合实际对流量标定提出具体测量方案,并组织实施。 展开更多

These electronic gadgets ... Use of Electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, computers/laptops constitutes an integral part of human day-to-day activity in offices and businesses. Therefore, their use cannot be stopped. These electronic gadgets emit electromagnetic radiations, which are believed to be hazardous to human health. World Health Organization/International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group B). The Enviro Chip developed by Synergy Environics, India, is a radiation harmonizing chip which when fixed on electronic gadgets at specific locations claims to reduce stress level by reducing the pulse rate of users which may also result in improvement of other health parameters. In this study, we have tested the ability of the Enviro Chip to reduce pulse rate of people who may have developed high pulse rate due to prolonged use of electronic gadgets. This was the double blind crossover study conducted in 205 healthy volunteers having an average pulse rate of above 82 per Minute at Max Healthcare India. The primary objective of the study was to evaluate and compare the change in pulse rate over 14 measurements with the use of both the Enviro Chip and a Dummy chip from average pulse rate at baseline without the Placebo effect. The secondary objective was to evaluate the change in pulse rate gender-wise. Data analysis was done using Wilcoxon Sign Rank test. The study demonstrated statistical significant reduction in pulse rate over 14 measurements with the use of Enviro Chip in both male and female healthy volunteers 展开更多

Cancer is an abnormal state of cells where they undergo uncontrolled proliferation and produce aggressive malignancies that causes millions of deaths every year.With the new understanding of the molecular mechanism(s)of disease progression,our knowledge about the disease is snowballing,leading to the evolution of many new therapeutic regimes and their successive trials.In the past few decades,various combinations of therapies have been pro-posed and are presently employed in the treatment of diverse cancers.Targeted drug therapy,immunotherapy,and personalized medicines are now largely being employed,which were not common a few years back.The field of cancer discoveries and therapeutics are evolving fast as cancer type-specific biomarkers are progressively being identified and several types of cancers are nowadays undergoing systematic therapies,extending patients’disease-free survival thereafter.Although growing evidence shows that a systematic and targeted approach could be the future of cancer medicine,chemotherapy remains a largely opted therapeutic option despite its known side effects on the patient’s physical and psychological health.Chemother-apeutic agents/pharmaceuticals served a great purpose over the past few decades and have remained the frontline choice for advanced-stage malignancies where surgery and/or radiation therapy cannot be prescribed due to specific reasons.The present report succinctly reviews the existing and contemporary advancements in chemotherapy and assesses the status of the enrolled drugs/pharmaceuticals;it also comprehensively discusses the emerging role of specific/targeted therapeutic strategies that are presently being employed to achieve better clinical success/survival rate in cancer patients. 展开更多

Assessment of terrace gardens as modifiers of building microclimate

Hard concrete roofs cause excessive heat gain impacting thermal comfort in buildings.Terrace gardens promoting greening at higher levels of built structures are seen as one of the key mitigating strategies for modifying building microclimate and improving urban health.We have undertaken a research project to quantitatively assess the value of a terrace garden in a residential scale.A garden patch of about 15 m 2 in area,a typical size available in most urban terraces is developed.Surface temperatures are measured over a period of 15 months between July 2018 to January 2020 using four thermocouple sensors,placed within and outside the garden bed,on and below the roof.We compare the thermal performance of the terrace garden across years,seasons,time of the day,presence or absence of garden bed and type and height of vegetation.The surface temperature data was found to correlate well with the ambient air temperature values.The results show that the terrace garden moderates and stabilises the ceiling temperatures and reduces it by about 2-3°C in winter months and 5-7°C in hot summers.The garden also provided nearly 400 g of fresh monthly vegetable harvest per m 2 of garden.Further,the cooling impact of the terrace garden with natural,tall,wild vegetation is higher as compared to planted vegetation.The study demonstrates a sustainable approach to terrace garden design at residential scale through quantified dual benefits of temperature control within buildings and urban farming. 展开更多
