The measured strain rates range from 8.8 × ...Creep behavior of the Zr-1.5Nb-0.4Sn-0.1Fe-0.1Cu alloy sheet is investigated from 300℃ to 400℃ in the stress range from 50 MPa to 180 MPa along the rolling direction. The measured strain rates range from 8.8 × 10^-10 s^-1 to 4.7 × 10^-7 s^-1. The activation energies are estimated to assess the creep deformation mechanisms in this alloy. The strain rate is slightly different at low stress, while it shows a distinct difference at high stresses. Stress exponents of this alloy increase with increasing applied stress at all testing temperatures. It is concluded that the creep deformation of the Zr-1.5Nb-0.4Sn-0.1Fe-0. 1 Cu alloy is controlled by the diffusion creep at low stress region and by the climbing of dislocations at high stress region.展开更多

Objectives: This study aimed to identify the contaminating bacteria in the extract of Garcinia cambogia, which is regularly used as a dietary supplement for addressing obesity in humans. Methods: The Garcinia cambogia...Objectives: This study aimed to identify the contaminating bacteria in the extract of Garcinia cambogia, which is regularly used as a dietary supplement for addressing obesity in humans. Methods: The Garcinia cambogia extract was used and experiments were conducted to isolate the contaminating bacteria and antibiotic susceptibility was tested. The organism was identified using BIOLOG system. Such an extract was used in a placebo-controlled animal study when 6 eight adult male rats weighing between 200 and 220 g were randomly distributed into three groups (n = 3) and in test group 1, a single dose of 100 mg/kg bw of Garcinia cambogia extract was given while in the test group 2, 100 mg Garcinia cambogia extract + 116 mg Picrorhiza kurroa extract were administered through oral gavage. The normal control rats were given distilled water, and the treatment lasted for 30 days. Blood plasma and liver tissues were prepared for biochemical analysis and histology studies. Results: Nearly ~10<sup>3</sup> cfu/g of Bacillus atrophaeus was present in the Garcinia cambogia extract and we demonstrate >99% reduction in the microbial load with tetracycline. Such an extract at a dose of 100 mg/kg, showed weight loss in Wistar rats when administered orally for 1 month with no significant changes in liver histopathology. Picrorhiza kurroa, also known for its hepatoprotective properties, has been administered at a dose of 116 mg/kg along with Garcinia extract at 100 mg/kg orally and found to improve levels of hepatic enzymes as similar to control animals, although not statistically significant. Conclusions: The study revealed that Garcinia cambogia could prevent weight gain in Wistar rats when given orally and the weight gain in Garcinia-treated animals was almost 4 times less (7.31%), as against weight gain of 25.36% seen in vehicle control animals. The antibiotic susceptibility data indicated that the isolated bacterium is resistant to many antibiotics with a strong susceptibility to tetracycline.展开更多
Population genetics studies of allopolyploid species lag behind those of diploid species because of practical difficulties in analysis of homeologs-duplicated gene copies originating from hybridized parental species. ...Population genetics studies of allopolyploid species lag behind those of diploid species because of practical difficulties in analysis of homeologs-duplicated gene copies originating from hybridized parental species. Pool-Seq, i.e. massive parallel sequencing of pooled individuals, has high potential for detecting nucleotide polymorphisms within and among multiple populations;however, its use has been limited to diploid species. We applied Pool-Seq to an allopolyploid species by developing a bioinformatic pipeline that assigns reads to each homeolog as well as to each polymorphic allele within each homeolog. We simultaneously sequenced eight genes from twenty individuals from each of 24 populations, and found over 100 polymorphic sites in each homeolog. For two sites, we estimated allele frequencies using the number of reads and then validated these estimations by making individual-based estimations. Pool-Seq using our bioinformatic pipeline allows efficient evaluation of nucleotide polymorphisms in a large number of individuals, even in allopolyploid species.展开更多
The development of drug-resistant influenza and new pathogenic virus strains underscores the need for antiviral therapeutics.Currently,neuraminidase(NA)inhibitors are commonly used antiviral drugs approved by the US F...The development of drug-resistant influenza and new pathogenic virus strains underscores the need for antiviral therapeutics.Currently,neuraminidase(NA)inhibitors are commonly used antiviral drugs approved by the US Food and Drug Administration(FDA)for the prevention and treatment of influenza.Here,we show that vitisin B(VB)inhibits NA activity and suppresses H1N1 viral replication in MDCK and A549 cells.Reactive oxygen species(ROS),which frequently occur during viral infection,increase virus replication by activating the NF-κB signaling pathway,downmodulating glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase(G6PD)expression,and decreasing the expression of nuclear factor erythroid2-related factor 2(Nrf2)antioxidant response activity.VB decreased virus-induced ROS generation by increasing G6PD expression and Nrf2 activity,and inhibiting NF-κB translocation to the nucleus through IKK dephosphorylation.In addition,VB reduced body weight loss,increased survival,decreased viral replication and the inflammatory response in the lungs of influenza A virus(IAV)-infected mice.Taken together,our results indicate that VB is a promising therapeutic candidate against IAV infection,complements existing drug limitations targeting viral NA.It modulated the intracellular ROS by G6PD,Nrf2 antioxidant response pathway,and NF-κB signaling pathway.These results demonstrate the feasibility of a multi-targeting drug strategy,providing new approaches for drug discovery against IAV infection.展开更多

Effects of Cr addition(0,3,and 6 wt%) on Charpy impact properties of Fe-C-Mn-Cr-based steels were studied by conducting dynamic compression tests at room and cryogenic temperatures.At room temperature,deformation mech...Effects of Cr addition(0,3,and 6 wt%) on Charpy impact properties of Fe-C-Mn-Cr-based steels were studied by conducting dynamic compression tests at room and cryogenic temperatures.At room temperature,deformation mechanisms of Charpy impacted specimens were observed as twinning induced plasticity(TWIP) without any transfo rmation induced plasticity(TRIP) in all the steels.At cryogenic temperature,many twins were populated in the Cr-added steels,but,interestingly,fine ε-martensite was found in the OCr steel,satisfying the Shoji-Nishiyama(S-N) orientation relationship,{111}γ//{0002}ε and <101>γ//<1120>ε.Even though the cryogenic-temperature staking fault energies(SFEs) of the three steel were situated in the TWIP regime,the martensitic transformation was induced by Mn-and Cr-segregated bands.In the OCr steel,SFEs of low-(Mn,Cr) bands lay between the TWIP and TRIP regimes which were sensitively affected by a small change of SFE.The dynamic compressive test results well showed the relation between segregation bands and the SFEs.Effects of Cr were known as not only increasing the SFE but also promoting the carbide precipitation.In order to identify the possibility of carbide formation,a precipitation kinetics simulation was conducted,and the predicted fractions of precipitated M23C6 were negligible,0.4-1.1×10-5,even at the low cooling rate of 10℃/s.展开更多
