This article takes the need theory, the psychological frustration theory, the cognitive process theory and the theory of group psychological motivation as the principles, and obtaining the event in the actual struggle with the cult, the author reveals how the cult sets up the swindle with these theories and how the cult organization is developed fast and how to control cult believers and how they provide a service to themselves. The writers argue that when the cult leader crazily steals the psychological theory to deceive others and murder others and to loot money, we also should wave the psychological sword, and should use the psychological theory and methods against the cult to rescue the practitioners captured by cults, and the article also provides a strategy and method which can be a reference.展开更多

There is a clear gap in meeting the needs for treatment and care for people with drug use disorders in Nigeria with many users reporting a self-perceived need for treatment and about 40% of them wanting to receive drug treatment but were unable to access such services. Methods: ASSIST questionnaire was used to gather baseline data, and ALBI along with Motivational Interviewing (MI) was used to intervene for 6 weeks following which ASSIST score was repeated and compared with baseline. Results: Majority of the participants were aged 21 - 30 years, mostly males with (61.3%) lacking steady jobs. Lifetime prevalence of any drug use was (88.2%). Three months prevalence was nicotine (72.0%), alcohol (66.7%), cannabis (47.3%), opioids (11.8%) among others. The ASSIST scores were mostly on the severe ranges. ASSIST result after six weeks showed marked reduction. The Mean Difference (MD) in the ASSIST scores after intervention was significant for tobacco, opioids, alcohol, and cannabis. The Cohen’s D effect size was large for tobacco (1.08), alcohol (0.92) and cannabis (0.73) but low for other substances. Conclusion: ALBI along with MI was helpful in combating the menace of substance use.展开更多

Coping with stress and mental health problems, continuing to assume a rewarding parental role and finding suitable care are the trials and tribulations that mark out the journey of African parents. Faith and belief have been described as providing meaning and coping mechanisms in the frightening ordeal of disability. An encounter with a young girl and her parents provided an opportunity to analyse the mother’s experience and the impact of beliefs and discourses on her commitment to care. Based on this clinical story, we discuss the place of other-actors (parents and carers) and the Other-God in relation to the psychopathological dynamics of the mother.展开更多

This pilot study aims to test the efficacy of an extended version of CBT-I called Integrative Therapy for Insomnia (IT-I). The traditional CBT-I is complemented with exercises that are expected to enhance relearning to sleep by providing different stimuli, and access options for the retrieval and application of the acquired information, cognition, and skills. Method: The efficacy of the IT-I is measured by comparing the participants’ scores on the Insomnia Severity Index at baseline and post-treatment. In total 29 people, with a wide range of ages, participated in the 8 sessions’ treatment of one hour 45 minutes per session, in mixed groups of age, gender, and primary or comorbid insomnia. Results: Comparing the ISI baseline and post-treatment scores, results show a mean improvement of 7.2 points and a p r = −0.43. Conclusions: The integration of exercises that generate sensory-motor stimuli, and address the mirror neuron system fitting with the Mental Contrasting as a metacognitive strategy seems to facilitate re-learning to sleep in cases of primary insomnia as well as for comorbid insomnia. Further studies will be needed to arrive at more firm conclusions.展开更多

The prescription of this drug has been controversial ever since its initial marketing in 1982. It is the only non-psychotropic drug in the Food and Drug Administration top 10 drugs found to be associated with depression. Recently, Bremner et al published an extensive review(until 2010) of the evidence for the association of retinoic acid(RA) with depression and suicide. Some patients who are admitted in psychiatric hospitals report a history of present or past treatment with isotretinoin. Then, the imputability of the molecule in the occurrence of disorders represents necessarily an important question for both professionals and their patients. This paper aims to specify the links between the drug and specific psychiatric disorders. A review of the literature related to isotretinoin, RA, vitamin A, depression, suicide, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia was performed. Many studies demonstrated an increased risk of depression, attempted suicide and suicide following isotretinoin treatment. However, isotretinoin may have an antidepressant impact, according to some dermatological papers. They consider treating acne with this efficient treatment could improve selfimage and make the patient feel better. Several studies showed that patients with bipolar disorder had an increased risk for a clinical exacerbation of symptoms undergoing treatment with isotretinoin. A few studies also seem to suggest a possible link between isotretinoin and psychosis. Nonetheless, studies point out a link between retinoid dysregulation and schizophrenia through modulation of dopamine receptors. From this review, we propose guidelines for isotretinoin prescription to healthcare professionals.展开更多

The influence of transcranial magnetic stimulation on finger force has been investigated mainly on a single finger, and only time-dependent increased target finger force has been detected in the finger force task. OBJECTIVE: To explore the neural mechanism of finger force coordination in the motor cortex by observing the influence of various finger coordination patterns and patterns of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)-induced finger force changes. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Neurophysiological and behavioral study was performed at the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of Chongqing University from April to June 2008. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 10 healthy, university students, comprising 5 males and 5 females, aged 21-23 years, voluntarily participated in this study. All participants were right-handed, with normal or corrected vision. Individuals with upper limb complaints or other musculoskeletal disorders were excluded. METHODS: A target force-tracking task was conducted on the index finger, the index and middle fingers, and four fingers (index, middle, ring, and little), respectively. Target force trace in a single trial consisted of a 6-second ramp phase, a 20-second constant phase, and a 6-second drop phase. During experimentation, an unpredictable single-pulse TMS (120% motor threshold) was applied to the primary motor cortex (M1) in each phase. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Changes in peak force induced by TMS were obtained for each finger pattern during each force-tracking phase. Differences in force changes were tested between different finger pattems with regard to ramp, constant, and drop phases of target force. RESULTS: Under ramp, constant, and drop phases of target force, the increase in magnetic stimulation-induced finger forces changes positively correlated with the number of fingers involved in the force tracking task. The magnetic stimulation-induced force changes from the index finger were less than the combination of the index and middle fingers or all four fingers under the corresponding target force, and the force changes from the combination of the index and middle fingers were less than all four fingers, Le., index finger 〈 index and middle fingers 〈 four fingers. CONCLUSION: Different neuromuscular mechanisms could be involved in finger force production for different finger combination patterns. Results from the present study suggested that independent motor neurons regulated individual finger force production.展开更多

This is particularly true for both developed and developing countries, which are likely to face long-term issues in health and psychosocial care as the aging of their population increases. Within the theoretical framework of successful aging and developmental psychology, this paper aims to review recent advances in our knowledge of middle and late-life well-being in order to better understand the role of well-being and spirituality/religiosity across adulthood. The results of the selected studies allow us to conclude that subjective, hedonic, and eudemonic well-being and religious practices are significant determinants shaping the overall psychological well-being, life satisfaction, and social functioning of the older population. Limitations and implications of the study will also be discussed.展开更多

Results from the present study suggested that independent motor neurons regulated individual finger force production.

文摘BACKGROUND Over the last few decades,3 pathogenic pandemics have impacted the global population;severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus(SARS-CoV),Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus(MERS-CoV)and SARS-CoV-2.The global disease burden has attributed to millions of deaths and morbidities, with the majority being attributed to SARS-CoV-2.As such, the evaluation of the mental health(MH)impact across healthcare professionals(HCPs),patients and the general public would be an important facet to evaluate to better understand short, medium and long-term exposures.AIM To identify and report:(1)MH conditions commonly observed across all 3 pandemics;(2)Impact of MH outcomes across HCPs,patients and the general public associated with all 3 pandemics;and(3)The prevalence of the MH impact and clinical epidemiological significance.METHODS A systematic methodology was developed and published on PROSPERO(CRD42021228697).The databases PubMed,EMBASE,ScienceDirect and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were used as part of the data extraction process, and publications from January 1,1990 to August 1,2021 were searched.MeSH terms and keywords used included Mood disorders,PTSD,Anxiety,Depression,Psychological stress,Psychosis,Bipolar,Mental Health,Unipolar,Self-harm,BAME,Psychiatry disorders and Psychological distress. The terms were expanded with a‘snowballing’method.Cox-regression and the Monte-Carlo simulation method was used in addition to I2 and Egger’s tests to determine heterogeneity and publication bias.RESULTS In comparison to MERS and SARS-CoV,it is evident SAR-CoV-2 has an ongoing MH impact, with emphasis on depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.CONCLUSION It was evident MH studies during MERS and SARS-CoV was limited in comparison to SARS-CoV-2,with much emphasis on reporting symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress and sleep disturbances. The lack of comprehensive studies conducted during previous pandemics have introduced limitations to the“know-how”for clinicians and researchers to better support patients and deliver care with limited healthcare resources.

文摘Objective This study aimed to assess anxiety, depression, and stress among inpatients with cancer. Methods Two hundred thirty-five hospitalized patients with cancer were surveyed with the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales(simplified Chinese Version). The software program SPSS 25.0 was used for statistical analysis of the survey data. Results The average scores of depression, anxiety, and stress of inpatients with cancer were 12.17,11.84,and 13.98 respectively, which were higher than the normal range. The scores of anxiety and stress of inpatients with different caregivers were statistically different(P=0.024/0.036).The anxiety and stress scores of inpatients with spouses as caregivers were higher than those of inpatients with children as caregivers. There was a statistically significant difference in the incidence of stress between inpatients with cancer with religious beliefs and inpatients with cancer without religious beliefs(P=0.026),and those with religious beliefs had greater incidence of stress. The score of anxiety was significantly higher for inpatients with children than for inpatients without children(P=0.040).Conclusion The anxiety, depression, and stress levels of inpatients with cancer are relatively high.It is necessary to pay special attention to the psychological status of these patients during clinical diagnosis and treatment to improve their quality of life.
文摘Much research has highlighted the aging process as a global, multi-faceted issue, focusing on modifiable factors that can improve physical health and psychosocial well-being in late life. Limitations and implications of the study will also be discussed.
