This study considers an MHD Jeffery-Hamel nanofluid flow with distinct nanoparticles such as copper,Al_(2)O_(3)and SiO_(2)between two rigid non-parallel plane walls with the fuzzy extension of the generalized dual parametric homotopy algorithm.The nanofluids have been formulated to enhance the thermophysical characteristics of fluids,including thermal diffusivity,conductivity,convective heat transfer coefficients and viscosity.Due to the presence of distinct nanofluids,a change in the value of volume fraction occurs that influences the velocity profiles of the flow.The short value of nanoparticles volume fraction is considered an uncertain parameter and represented in a triangular fuzzy number range among[0.0,0.1,0.2].A novel generalized dual parametric homotopy algorithm with fuzzy extension is used here to study the fuzzy velocities at various channel positions.Finally,the effectiveness of the proposed approach has been demonstrated through a comparison with the available results in the crisp case. 展开更多

Magnesium and magnesium in-situ composites have significant potential in the application of design and manufacturing for automotive and aerospace industries because of their high specific strength and reduced fuel consumption.But there are many challenges for machining of Mg based alloys and composites because of the high tendency of fire and oxidation.These challenges can be minimized through microstructural engineering.In this present study,the machining performances of AZ91 Mg alloy and in-situ hybrid TiC+TiB_(2)reinforced AZ91 metal matrix composite was investigated.The effectβ-Mg_(17)Al_(12)phases and grain refinement with and without in-situ particles on machinability were studied through microstructural engineering via aging and friction stir processing.The end milling operation was carried out at different cutting speeds ranging from 25 mm/min to 90 mm/min under dry environment by using an AlTiN-coated tungsten carbide tool.The optimum cutting speed for machining was found to be 75 mm/min based on the surface roughness values of all conditioned materials.The base material with dendritic microstructure was found to have poor machinability in terms of inadequate surface finish and edge-burrs formation.The combined effect of in-situ TiC+TiB_(2)particles addition and grain refinement enhanced the machining performance of the material with superior surface finish,negligible edge-burr formation and better tool wear resistance.The influence of in-situ TiC+TiB_(2)particles,β-Mg_(17)Al_(12)phases and grain refinement on machining characteristics are explained based on the tool wear mechanisms,chip behavior and machining induced affected zone. 展开更多

The efiect of an innovative accelerated carbonation curing technique was evaluated on concrete containing natural zeolite powder and fine aggregate as partial replacement to alleviate the CO_(2) emission up to a certain extent from the concrete production industry and improve sequestration of CO_(2) into the concrete matrix in a stable form.An accelerated carbonation curing was accomplished by subjecting the concrete specimens to 0.5 and 0.75 M concentrations of sodium bicarbonate(NaHCO_(3)) solutions up to a curing age of 180 days after the initial 28 days of normal water curing.Tests for carbonation depth,pH value,compressive strength,calcium carbonate(CaCO_(3))content,X-ray difiraction,and thermogravimetric(TGA)analyses and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)were performed to measure the extent of carbonation.The obtained results showed an increment in average compressive strength for the zeolite concrete(ZLC)mixes exposed to accelerated carbonation curing.The ZLC mixes exposed to increasing NaHCO_(3) solution concentration and exposure period exhibited greater carbonation depth and decreased pH at each depth interval indicating higher CO_(2) sequestration within the concrete matrix.The results obtained from the microstructural analysis(XRD,TGA,and FTIR)and CaCO_(3) content measurements confirm that the higher amount of CaCO_(3) formation provides a clear indication of the carbonation enhancement and CO_(2) sequestration within the concrete matrix and in turn contributing to the global warming reduction. 展开更多

Analysis of Pollutant Load Carrying Capacity of the River Tapi Using QUAL2Kw for Surat City

River Tapi is the prime water body for Surat city, Gujarat, India. On a long stretch of 22.39 km in Surat city (Kamrej to Causeway) of the Tapi river, there are many identified and non-identified discharge points available. Excessive discharge from these points restricts the efficiency of the self-purification process which ultimately degrades the river water quality. In this paper, an attempt has been made to estimate the pollutant load-carrying capacity at different segments of the river Tapi using the QUAL2Kw tool. The study has been undertaken with different scenarios: First, the QUAL2Kw model was trained with available river water quality and hydraulic data of the Tapi river in which the complete river segment was divided into 21 reaches. The model was calibrated and validated with the actual concentrations of the pollutants entering. In the second phase, all the point source, non-point source, and headwater characteristics were considered and the pollutant load-carrying capacity of the river in terms of BOD, ISS, and N-nitrate was found. In the third phase, all the sources of pollutants entering the river have been removed and only headwater characteristics were considered for the study. The results indicate that reach no. 21 (21.23ºN, 72.82ºE) has the maximum load-carrying capacity of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) up to 2057.7 kg/day, Inorganic Suspended Solids (ISS) up to 85633.8 kg/day, and Nitrate (NO<sub>3</sub>) up to 31688.8 kg/day. However, reach no. 4 has the minimum load carrying capacity of BOD up to 1088.1 kg/day, reach 8 carries a minimum of ISS 205341.6 kg/day and NO3 10215.57 kg/day. 展开更多

The hydrogenolysis of carbon–oxygen bonds is an important model reaction in upgrading biomass‐derived furanic compounds to transportation fuels.One of these model reactions,namelyconversion of5‐hydroxymethylfurfural(HMF)to the gasoline additive2,5‐dimethylfuran(DMF),isespecially attractive.In this study,bimetallic Cu‐Co catalysts supported on CeO2,ZrO2,and Al2O3were used for the selective hydrogenolysis of HMF to DMF.The structures of the fresh and usedcatalysts were studied using X‐ray diffraction,the Brunauer‐Emmett‐Teller method,transmissionelectron microscopy,temperature‐programmed reduction by H2,temperature‐programmed desorptionof NH3,and CHNS analysis.The structures were correlated with the catalytic activities.TheCu‐Co/CeO2catalyst produced mainly2,5‐bis(hydroxymethyl)furan via reduction of C=O bonds onlarge Cu particles.The Cu‐Co/Al2O3catalyst gave the best selectivity for DMF,as a result of a combinationof highly dispersed Cu,mixed copper–cobalt oxides,and suitable weak acidic sites.Cu‐Co/ZrO2had low selectivity for DMF and produced a combination of variousover‐hydrogenolysis products,including2,5‐dimethyltetrahydrofuran and5,5‐oxybis(methylene)‐bis(2‐methylfuran),because of the presence of strong acidic sites.The reaction pathways and effectsof various operating parameters,namely temperature,H2pressure,and time,were studied to enableoptimization of the selective conversion of HMF to DMF over the Cu‐Co/Al2O3catalyst. 展开更多

Biofabrication of noble monometallic platinum nanoparticles(Pt-NPs) and bimetallic gold–silver nanoparticles(Au Ag-NPs) using aqueous extract of Delonix regia is presented here. Antioxidant activity of biomatrix-loaded metallic nanoparticles is estimated for scavenging of two model radicals i.e., 2,2′-Azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt and 1,1′-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl. Broad spectral continuum spanning from visible to ultra-violet region(Pt-NPs: 30 min) and broad high intensity absorption peak around at 500 nm(Au Ag-NPs: 10 min) in two different UV–Visible spectra confirmed the biofabrication. Nanoparticles fabricated with distorted spherical shape and crystalline face-centred-cubic geometry. Strong signal around at 2.10 ke V(pure-phase platinum) and typical X-ray peaks observed at 2.20 and 3 ke V suggested, co-existence and alloying interaction of Au and Ag in Au Ag-NPs. ζ potential(-15.2 mV: Pt-NPs and -13.9 mV: Au Ag-NPs) values suggested surface adsorption of polyphenolic compounds to provide stability. Nanoparticles exhibited pronounced antioxidant activity against free radicals through their electron/hydrogen transfer ability. 展开更多

In this study,polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)–ionic liquid(IL) membranes were prepared for the separation of isopropyl alcohol(IPA)–water azeotropic mixtures by pervaporation.PVA-IL composite membranes were prepared by simple solvent evaporation method using four ILs,viz.,1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride(BMIMCl),1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride(HMIMCl),1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetra fluoroborate(HMIMBF4) and 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride(OMIMCl).Three ILs were used to study the effect of alkyl chain on the pervaporation performance.The study had focused on the effect feed water concentration from 10%–40%and effect of feed temperature from 50–80°C.Physiochemical properties of all the membranes were studied using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and contact angle measurement.The Arrhenius activation energies for permeation were estimated to be in the range 4–12 kJ·mol-1 from the temperature dependent permeation values. 展开更多

The main aim of the paper is to examine the concentration of the longitudinal dispersion phenomenon arising in fluid flow through porous media. These phenomenon yields a partial differential equation namely Burger’s equation, which is solved by mixture of the new integral transform and the homotopy perturbation method under suitable conditions and the standard assumption. This method provides an analytical approximation in a rapidly convergent sequence with in exclusive manner computed terms. Its rapid convergence shows that the method is trustworthy and introduces a significant improvement in solving nonlinear partial differential equations over existing methods. It is concluded that the behaviour of concentration in longitudinal dispersion phenomenon is decreases as distance x is increasing with fixed time t > 0 and slightly increases with time t. 展开更多

This work has investigated the scaleup potential of microbial fuel cells(MFCs)under stacking mode.Stacking was done in batch mode and continuous mode.Batch feeding mode stacks were operated in electrical series(S)and parallel(P)mode.Continuous feeding mode stacks were kept in electrically parallel mode with different hydrodynamic patterns.The two continuous stacks were connected hydrodynamically in series(i.e.Parallel Dependent;PD)and parallel(i.e.Parallel Independent;PID)configurations.The performance of the continuous stacks was evaluated on the basis of COD consumption rate,power generation and coulombic efficiency.PID obtained highest power(0.47 mW)which was approximately 3.6 times that of PD configuration(0.13 mW).The rate of COD consumption was also highest in PID stack(3091.75 mg·L^(-1)·d ^(-1)).Coulombic efficiency of the PID stack was 14.26%which was approximately 292.8%of the PD stack.The results confirmed that the parallel electrical connection hybridized with the independent hydrodynamic flow gives the best possible results when working with stacking of MFCs. 展开更多

Wireless networks are playing an imperative role in our daily existence;in current scenario, the users want wireless connectivity for all location with all types of service. One of the major challenges for wireless network is security issue. First and foremost task is to detect the security attacks in the network and the second task is to prevent from an authorized attacks. In our view, a lot of researches are going on and somehow we have succeeded in the first case but the second task is very tough due to wireless channel. Our research is based on how to avoid network attack i.e. misbehavior node attack in the WiMAX system. In this paper we have proposed an algorithm for WiMAX network and our algorithm are able to prevent fixed as well as mobile misbehavior node attacks. As we know, misbehavior node misbehaves in the sense that the node does not esteem its MAC protocols and avariciously sends its packets without any restriction (Flooding of packets) because it doesn't follow any protocol. Our proposed work based on the standard time required for communication for valid user with some threshold time for valid delay and some unwanted delay with network conditions. Our approach can control continuous flooding of packets and continuously transmits Constant Bit Rate (CBR) packets by misbehavior node, which introduces noise in the network and upset the performance of the network. Urban road traffic noise pollution has always been identified as a severe problem that affects urban populants.In developing nation,road traffic noise pollution depends on the composition of heterogeneous traffic composition.These traffic compositions contain vehicles,which have different sizes,speeds variations,a different dimension of vehicles.Environmental noise measurements have been carried out during day-time and night-time in different locations of tier-II city of India.The noise levels have been continuously measured over 24 h periods using kimo DB 300 class-2 noise level meter.The data contained in this research paper represent 768 measurement hours.All the information has been used to investigate the time patterns of the noise levels under a wide range of different conditions and to study the relationships between noise levels and traffic in urban areas.Maximum LAeq was observed 73.3 dB(A)at B_(14) location and the minimum was recorded 65.7 dB(A)at C_(3) location,which was greater than the central pollution control board(CPCB)prescribed limits during night time.A major reason for the generation of road traffic noise is due to the equal composition of 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler on the arterial road and heavy vehicles were recorded during morning peak and evening peak even though they are prohibited during peak hours. 展开更多

In this paper, we introduce and study the system of generalized vector quasi-variational-like inequalities in Hausdorff topological vector spaces, which include the system of vector quasi-variational-like inequalities, the system of vector variational-like inequalities, the system of vector quasi-variational inequalities, and several other systems as special cases. Moreover, a number of C-diagonal quasiconvexity properties are proposed for set-valued maps, which are natural generalizations of the g-diagonal quasiconvexity for real functions. Together with an application of continuous selection and fixed-point theorems, these conditions enable us to prove unified existence results of solutions for the system of generalized vector quasi-variational-like inequalities. In the present study, the imitation of heavy rainfall event which occurred over Jharkhand during 18 August 2016 was taken as a case study. Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model has been utilized for this study. National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) analysis data is compared with GSMaP data with different combination of physical parameterization scheme like microphysics (MP) and cumulus parameterization (CP). In the present study, three MP schemes: Kessler scheme, Lin et al. scheme and WRF Single-moment 6-class scheme with combination of three CP schemes: Betts-Miller-Janjic scheme, Multi-scale Kain-Fritsch scheme and New simplified Arakawa-Schubert scheme have been used. The model predicted humidity, temperature and precipitation were compared with the GSMaP product. The model nicely depicted the cloud pattern and recognized the rain event spatially. The obtained result shows that the model overestimates the precipitation for all the schemes. 展开更多

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the optimal supplier/retailer’s replenishment decisions under two levels of trade credit policy within the economic order quantity (EOQ) framework. This paper deals with the supplier/retailer’s inventory replenishment problem under two levels of trade credit in one replenishment cycle. A different approach of two levels of trade credit is used, which give more freedom to the supplier/retailer in business. Bus Rapid Transit(BRT)has emerged as a preferred mode of public transport in various countries all over the world for its cost effectiveness in construction as well as in operation and maintenance.The rapid transit feature of BRT is seen as a solution to many traffic problems in these countries.However,in developing countries like India,the right–of-way for most of the roads is restricted and traffic is heterogeneous in nature.Provision of BRT in existing right–ofway reduces the capacity available for other motorized traffic.As the buses travel with a certain frequency on dedicated bus-ways,the dedicated corridor remains unused for most of the period when other traffic on motorized vehicle(MV)lanes suffers from congestion.The problem gets severe at intersections.However,if buses are operated in mixed traffic it is no more rapid transit.Hence,a solution is required to address this problem and optimize the performance of traffic as a whole.This paper presents the effect if dedicated bus-ways end at a reasonable distance before the stop line at a busy signalized at-grade intersection,and bus lanes(beyond that)are made available to all the motorized vehicular traffic(heterogeneous traffic)at intersection.The performance evaluation is done in terms of average queue length,maximum queue length,average delay time per vehicle,vehicle throughput,average speed in network and emission of Carbon monoxide CO,mono-nitrogen oxides NOx and Volatile organic compounds(VOC).It is observed that availability of bus lanes to other motorized traffic for a reasonable distance before intersection considerably reduces the average queue length,maximum queue length,average delay time per vehicle and emission per vehicle,while there is an increase in vehicle throughput and average speed of all the vehicles in the network.Thus it results in reduction of congestion and performance enhancement of at-grade intersections and network.Results of investigation are relevant in international context.VISSIM,a microscopic simulation tool,is used to model the heterogeneous traffic and public transit lines under constraints of roadway geometry,vehicle characteristics,driving behaviour and traffic controls.The effect is investigated with different random seeds to obtain reasonable results for analysis. 展开更多

Vehicular ad hoc network is a solution for increasing road traffic demand.Non-safety messages are sent during the service channel interval.The slots during which the messages are sent are not decided prior to the transmission.If the reservation of slots is done during the control channel interval,then the non-safety messages can be transmitted without any collision and thus the network performance can be improved.Further,to improve the network performance,the safety packets can be scheduled in the queue according to the time remaining for which sender and receiver are in the range of each other.This work proposes and evaluates the performance of safety message scheduling and infotainment message reservation through a MAC protocol SSIR-MAC to ensure network stability by transmitting beacons without any collision.The safety messages are queued according to their deadline and the slots for the transmission of non-safety packets are reserved during the control channel itself.Further,a hybrid queue is proposed to decrease the delay of enqueue and dequeue operations.Evaluation through extensive simulation results demonstrates the strength of SSIR-MAC.Comparisons are made with IEEE 802.11p standard and with two existing protocols which are relevant to the proposed work. 展开更多
