An Investigation of ESP Research in China(2000-2014):Status Quo and Trend

This paper aims at investigating the development of ESP research in China from2000 to 2014 on the basis of analyzing papers published on CSSCI journals by quantitative means.By conducting analyses into the annual distribution of the papers,their research methods and their journal distribution,the writers find that(1)the number of ESP papers presents a yearly increasing trend;(2)compared with the foreign situation,there are more research focuses in China;(3)though non-empirical research is still dominant,there have been more and more empirical research since2007;(4)with the transition from EGP to ESP in institutions of higher learning in China,the multi-disciplinary nature of ESP will be more and more revealed.

The Evolution of the Modes of Ambiguity Application in the English Tragedies from Shakespeare,through Shaw,to O'Neill

In ambiguity application,it is discovered that the English tragedies' cognitive modes have experienced such an evolution that in Shakespeare's tragedies,the addressor and his addressee are separated and ambiguity application is wholly practiced with definite right standard context,though too late in disambiguation,in Shaw's,the addressor and his addressee are adhesive and the application wholly but with wrong standard context in disambiguation,and in O'Neill's,the addressor and his addressee are identical and disambiguation could not be done without standard context.Their different modes have revealed the cognitive causal process of the tragedies and the evolution the modes bring about indicates the tragedy is deepening in the English tragedies,from which the cognitive connotation of the evolution is further illuminated.

Rationality in Irrationality＇s Clothing -- Inference of Zen Koans by the Theory of Indirect, Speech Act

The implied meaning/intention probably varies with the changing context.But the inference of Zen koans is quite different and difficult,because the context for a Zen koan is usually implicit,and more confusing is the irrelevant words the Zen Master used in it,which costs us more time and effort to infer.Usually,no logical meaning will be inferred from the seemingly irrational expressions,but we may find the intention behind these koans remains the same no matter how changing the contexts will be.Zen Masters created these koans rationally to break down the learners’rigid indulgence in rational thoughts and expressions,because language is just a tool for learners to see their own nature,get enlightened and attain Buddha-nature.So,Zen koans are still inferable—the rational intention is in the disguise of irrational words.The inference of Zen koans is of theoretical significance.

On the English Version of A Dream in Red Mansions Translated by Liu Wuji

In An Introduction to Chinese Literature written by Liu Wuji,there are six translations of the passages in A Dream in Red Mansions,of which the Chinese version is the Zhiyanzhai version.Recently,it is doubted whether the six translations are all quoted.Through detailed analysis and literature review,this paper finds out that the translations of A Dream in Red Mansions are all translated by Liu Wuji,and the Chinese version is the Chengyi Version.

Experience in China of the Japanese Postwar Writer Takeda Taijun -- Focusing on the Shanghai Period

Takeda Taijun(1912-1976)is a representative of the Japanese postwar writers,who has a special affinity for China.During his whole lifetime,he stayed in China for two long periods,of which the period from June,1944 to February,1946 was spent in Shanghai.He was quite productive and created quite a few works focusing on China,especially Shanghai before and after Japan’s being defeated in the Second World War,which became the background of many works.This paper attempts to interpret Takeda Taijun’s experience in Shanghai of that time on the basis of the masterpiece Firefly in Shanghai in his later years.
