Data were collected through a questionnaire survey among 214 Wuhan University students and analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis.Findings: Perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and subjective norm can influence user intention to seek health information online. The urgency of problematic situations has a negative moderating effect on the relationship between perceived ease of use and user intention and the relationship between subjective norm and user intention. The severity of problematic situations has a negative moderating effect on the relationship between subjective norm and user intention.Research limitations: The respondents of the survey are limited to students in one Chinese university, so whether this study's results can be applied to another population or not remains to be verified. In addition, only two dimensions of problematic situations are considered in this study. Practical implications: The paper puts forward the moderating effect of problematic situations and verifies it, which is the compensation for online health information-seeking behavior research. Besides, our analyses have implications for professional design of health care systems and related consumer information searches, and improve their performance. Originality/value: Previous work has reported the effects of problematic situation on user intention to seek health information online, ignoring its influence on other factors. This empirical study extends that work to identify the influence of problematic situation when seeking intention-behavior data in two dimensions, urgency and severity.展开更多

Secondly, compared with weblog users, microblog users are more interconnected, more equal and more capable of developing relationships with people outside their own social networks. Thirdly, the microblogging social network is more conducive to information diffusion than the blogging network, because of their differences in functions and the information flow mechanism. Finally, the communication mode emerged with microblogging, with the characteristics of micro-content,multi-channel information dissemination, dense and decentralized social network and content aggregation, will be one of the trends in the development of the information exchange platform in the future.Research limitations: The sample size needs to be increased so that samples are more representative. Errors may exist during the data collection. Moreover, the individual-level characteristics of the samples as well as the types of information exchanged need to be further studied.Practical implications: This preliminary study explores the characteristics of information diffusion in the network environment and verifies the feasibility of conducting a quantitative analysis of information diffusion through social media. In addition,it provides insight into the characteristics of information diffusion in weblogs and microblogs and the possible reasons of these differences.Originality/value: We have analyzed the characteristics of information diffusion in weblogs and microblogs by using the social network analysis methods. This research will be useful for a quantitative analysis of the underlying mechanisms of information flow through social media in the network environment.展开更多

According to this theoretical model, we give a uniform explanation to all kinds of information growth models in existence, and put forward some proposals, such as "forbidding information transfer" and "building up the central information base", to control the repeated information flooding on the network and facilitate the full use of network information.展开更多

Design/methodology/approach: This paper developed the research model by using the technology acceptance model (TAM) and information system success model as the theoretical foundation. The proposed model was empirically tested with the structural equation modeling technique based on data collected from a survey of 357 college students. Findings: The results show that 1) perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and perceived playfulness all have a positive impact on the intention to use the Internet for acquiring information, 2) use context and system quality significantly influence perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, and 3) service quality has a positive impact on perceived ease of use but not on perceived usefulness. Likewise information quality has no positive effect on perceived usefulness. Research limitations: The survey respondents were mainly from college students in Nanjing. We need to recruit college students in the western or other developing areas in China to further validate our findings. Practical implications: This study puts forward some feasible suggestions for university libraries to improve information organization and the use of digital library resources to better meet the needs of library users. Originality/value: This study provides insights into the understanding of the factors affecting college students' online information acquisition from multiple perspectives.展开更多

Data were collected from questionnaires, Web logs and semi-structured interviews. Descriptive statistics and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for data analysis. Findings: Compared with non-community members, community participants had a better understanding of search tasks and were aware of the ways of completing tasks successfully. They did not depend on the information retrieval system when constructing search queries and would adopt diversified cooperation strategies. They were more likely to recommend information to their partners. However, no significant difference was found between subject- based community and interest-based community in CIS practices and user awareness in collaboration. In addition, task difficulty only influenced user preference of issuing queries and confidence of completing search tasks. Research limitations: Our work was limited by the community type we chose and the small group size, which could affect the generalizability of our findings and should be addressed in future studies. Practical implications: The study results will help inform information system designers as they design collaborative systems to facilitate social communication in the information seeking process. Originality/value: Few studies have investigated community participants' information seeking practices. This study provides insights into community-based CIS behavior. The findings will help us understand social interactions among community members during their information seeking process.展开更多

Within Chinese co-author networks, most Chinese scholars have come from the same research institutions, that is to say, more international cooperation and exchange are still required for the research of information visualization across different disciplines and regions.Research limitations: This co-author network and co-citation analysis is mainly based on the research field of LIS with a focus of the WoS and CSSCI databases only, further samples are required for more generalized results to increase our understanding on the development trend of information visualization.Practical implications: This study could lead to a better understanding of the applications of information visualization technologies in discovering the development trend of a research field. Originality/value: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first comparative analysis of research subject and intellectual base on information visualization, specifically, from the perspective of contributions of Chinese scholars in this regard. By dividing most frequently cited Chinese literature into two categories(original and non-original research papers), this paper shows the extent of contributions that Chinese domestic scholars have made to the research of information visualization, by revealing the contributions of different types of Chinese domestic papers on information visualization.展开更多

文摘The rapid growth of the education industry and private education groups has brought the high-quality development of listed private education companies into focus for both the educational sector and the capital market. This study employs the fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis(fsQCA)method to explore pathways to high-quality development for these companies.Necessity analysis confirms that no single factor guarantees a company’s success, highlighting the importance of multi-factor interactions.Three main paths to high-quality development are identified:human resource optimization, precise market positioning, and comprehensive advantage.Conversely, four development paths for non-high-level companies are identified:dual insufficiency in resources and market, high turnover and over-investment,scale expansion with resource mismatch, and inadequate human resource development. The findings indicate that optimal allocation of educational resources, precise market positioning, rational resource allocation, and staff training are crucial for achieving high-quality development.Robustness tests, which raise the consistency threshold, verify the reliability and stability of the results. These findings provide a reference for policymakers, investors, and managers in the education industry.

文摘Purpose: This study investigates how online user intention in searching health information is affected by problematic situations.Design/methodology/approach: Based on the Theory of Reasoned Action, the Technology Acceptance Model, and Sense-making theory, we propose two dimensions of problematic situations: urgency and severity of health issues being searched online. This empirical study extends that work to identify the influence of problematic situation when seeking intention-behavior data in two dimensions, urgency and severity.

文摘Purpose: This paper intends to explore a quantitative method for investigating the characteristics of information diffusion through social media like weblogs and microblogs.By using the social network analysis methods,we attempt to analyze the different characteristics of information diffusion in weblogs and microblogs as well as the possible reasons of these differences.Design/methodology/approach: Using the social network analysis methods, this paper carries out an empirical study by taking the Chinese weblogs and microblogs in the field of Library and Information Science(LIS) as the research sample and employing measures such as network density,core/peripheral structure and centrality.Findings: Firstly, both bloggers and microbloggers maintain weak ties, and both of their social networks display a small-world effect. This research will be useful for a quantitative analysis of the underlying mechanisms of information flow through social media in the network environment.

文摘Based on the assumptions of "information transfer" and "information creation", this paper educes the multiplied growth mechanism of network information: that the gross quantity of network information (Im) is about n times as much as the quantity of real network information (Ir). According to this theoretical model, we give a uniform explanation to all kinds of information growth models in existence, and put forward some proposals, such as "forbidding information transfer" and "building up the central information base", to control the repeated information flooding on the network and facilitate the full use of network information.

文摘Purpose: This study intends to examine the factors that influence Chinese college students' use of the lnternet for acquiring information. Originality/value: This study provides insights into the understanding of the factors affecting college students' online information acquisition from multiple perspectives.

文摘Purpose: This article reports on an experiment that tested community members' collaborative information seeking (CIS) behavior, with an emphasis on how community type and task difficulty can affect user behavior and user awareness in collaboration.Design/methodology/approach: We carried out a laboratory study with 18 participants in 9 pairs using an experimental CIS system. The findings will help us understand social interactions among community members during their information seeking process.

文摘Purpose: Focusing on a comparative analysis of information visualization in library and information science(LIS) from the perspective of research subject and intellectual base, this paper aims to discover the difference and coherence between Chinese domestic studies on information visualization and those of other areas of the world so as to show their theoretical foundation and development trend in a more objective way.Design/methodology/approach: By using the social network analysis tool Ucinet, we have first constructed networks of key author collaboration for 651 articles retrieved from the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index(CSSCI) and 910 from the Web of Science(WoS),which were published on information visualization between 1998 and 2012 in library and information science, then we compared the intellectual base by mapping analysis from perspective of half-life, centrality and burst detection with CiteSpace II.Findings: Up to date, 51 countries and regions have contributed to the research of information visualization, and in total, we found 9 research clusters of author co-occurrence matrices, among which three are in China. By dividing most frequently cited Chinese literature into two categories(original and non-original research papers), this paper shows the extent of contributions that Chinese domestic scholars have made to the research of information visualization, by revealing the contributions of different types of Chinese domestic papers on information visualization.
