" Analysis is performed to study the slip effects on the peristaltic flow of non-Newtonian fluid in a curved channel with wall properties. The resulting nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed to a single ordinary differential equation in a stream function by using the assumptions of long wavelength and low Reynolds number. This differential equation is solved numerically by employing the built-in routine for solving nonlinear boundary value problems (BVPs) through the software Mathematica. In addition, the analytic solutions for small Deborah number are computed with a regular perturbation technique. It is noticed that the symmetry of bolus is destroyed in a curved channel. An intensification in the slip effect results in a larger magnitude of axial velocity. Further, the size and circulation of the trapped boluses increase with an increase in the slip parameter. Different from the case of planar channel, the axial velocity profiles are tilted towards the lower part of the channel. A comparative study between analytic and numerical solutions shows excellent agreement. 展开更多

We investigate the Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model for a two-dimensional laminar boundary layer flow of an incompressible Oldroyd-B fluid over a linearly stretching sheet. Mathematical formulation of the boundary layer problems is given. The nonlinear partial differential equations are converted into the ordinary differential equations using similarity transformatioris. The dimensionless velocity and temperature profiles are obtained through optimal homotopy analysis method (OHAM). The influences of the physical parameters on the velocity and the temperature are pointed out. The results show that the temperature and the thermal boundary layer thickness are smaller in the Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model than those in the Fourier's law of heat conduction. 展开更多

Using the linearized relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell equations,a generalized expression for the plasma conductivity tensor is derived.The dispersion relation for the O-mode in a relativistic degenerate electron plasma is investigated by employing the Fermi-Dirac distribution function.The propagation characteristics of the O-mode(cut offs,resonances,propagation regimes,harmonic structure) are examined by using specific values of the density and the magnetic field that correspond to different relativistic dense environments.Further,it is observed that due to the relativistic effects the cut off and the resonance points are shifted to low frequency values,as a result the propagation regime is reduced.The dispersion relations for the non-relativistic and the ultra-relativistic limits are also presented. 展开更多

The present research investigated the effect of reduced graphene oxide(rGO) integration with assynthesized Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO nanocomposites on dielectric properties. The samples were characterized by Xray diffraction(XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy(DRS), and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS). Complex impedance spectroscopy was utilized to characterize dielectric relaxation phenomena in Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO and Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO/rGO nanocomposites. All the samples exhibit single relaxation phenomena which are ascribed to grain boundaries. The addition of rGO to Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO nanocomposite results in the enhancement of dielectric response due to increased local field intensity caused by the formation of conductinginsulating interfaces. Furthermore, the AC conductivity of the Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO/rGO is increased at higher frequencies due to the presence of free charge carriers in rGO. At higher frequencies, Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO/rGO nanocomposite with increased concentration of ZnO exhibits a more stable dielectric constant with extremely low dielectric loss. Hence, the inclusion of rGO in Er_(2)O_(3)/ZnO nanocomposites makes it a novel prospective candidate in the field of energy storage devices. 展开更多

To prevent CO_2 accumulation in the atmosphere generated from scorching of fossil fuels, carbon capture and sequestration(CCS) technology is considered as a potential route to mitigate the emissions of CO_2 from reaching the atmosphere. Power generation from sources such as gas, coal and biomass can fulfill the energy demand more readily than many other sources of electricity production. Thus these sources may be retained as important alternative option in the global energy cycle. In order to curtail CO_2, porous aramid network was fabricated by the condensation of 1,3,5-benzenetricarbonyl trichloride and 1,3-phenylenediamine in 1,4-dioxane solvent. Aramid was characterized for various analyses including FTIR, XRD, TGA, BET surface area and pore size analysis, FESEM and CO_2 adsorption measurements. Excellent thermal stability was provided by strong amide linkages in the polymer backbone. Optimum CO_2 uptake of aramid was achieved to be 23.14 mg·g^(-1) at 273 K at 0.1 MPa. The basic amide groups of network structure showed greater affinity for CO_2.Excellent thermal stability of aramid makes it a promising sorbent for CO_2 capture in adverse conditions. 展开更多

Global warming, the major environmental issue confronted by humanity today, is caused by rising level of green house gases. Carbon capture and storage technologies offer potential for tapering CO2 emission in the atmosphere. Adsorption is believed to be a promising technology for CO2 capture. For this purpose, a polyester was synthesized by polycondensation of1,3,5-benzenetricarbonyl trichloride and cyanuric acid in pyridine and dichloromethane mixture. The polymer was then characterized using FT-IR, TGA, BET surface area and pore size analysis, FESEM and CO2 adsorption measurements. The CO2 adsorption capacities of the polyester were evaluated at a pressure of 1 bar and two different temperatures(273 and 298 K).The performance of these materials to adsorb CO2 at atmospheric pressure was measured by optimum CO2 uptake of 0.244 mmol/g at 273 K. The synthesized polyester, therefore, has the potential to be exploited as CO2 adsorbent in pre-combustion capture process. 展开更多

Mathematical model for Maxwell fluid flow in rotating frame induced by an isothermal stretching wall is explored numerically. Scale analysis based boundary layer approximations are applied to simplify the conservation relations which are later converted to similar forms via appropriate substitutions. A numerical approach is utilized to derive similarity solutions for broad range of Deborah number. The results predict that velocity distributions are inversely proportional to the stress relaxation time. This outcome is different from that observed for the elastic parameter of second grade fluid. Unlike non-rotating frame, the solution curves are oscillatory decaying functions of similarity variable. As angular velocity enlarges, temperature rises and significant drop in the heat transfer coefficient occurs. We note that the wall slope of temperature has an asymptotically decaying profile against the wall to ambient ratio parameter. From the qualitative view point, temperature ratio parameter and radiation parameter have similar effect on the thermal boundary layer. Furthermore, radiation parameter has a definite role in improving the cooling process of the stretching boundary.A comparative study of current numerical computations and those from the existing studies is also presented in a limiting case. To our knowledge, the phenomenon of non-linear radiation in rotating viscoelastic flow due to linearly stretched plate is just modeled here. 展开更多

We investigate the dynamics of a charged particle being kicked off from its circular orbit around a regular black hole by an incoming massive particle in the presence of magnetic field. The resulting escape velocity, escape energy and the effective potential are analyzed. It is shown that the presence of even a very weak magnetic field helps the charged particles in escaping the gravitational field of the black hole. Moreover the effective force acting on the particle visibly reduces with distance. Thus particle near the black hole will experience higher effective force as compared to when it is far away. 展开更多

Asymptotically safe gravity is an effective approach to quantum gravity.It is important to differentiate modified gravity,which is inspired by asymptotically safe gravity.In this study,we examine particle dynamics near the improved version of a Schwarzschild black hole.We assume that in the context of an asymptotically safe gravity scenario,the ambient matter surrounding the black hole is of isothermal nature,and we investigate the spherical accretion of matter by deriving solutions at critical points.The analysis of various values of the state parameter for isothermal test fluids,viz.,k=1,1/2,1/3,1/4 show the possibility of accretion onto an asymptotically safe black hole.We formulate the accretion problem as Hamiltonian dynamical system and explain its phase flow in detail,which reveals interesting results in the asymptotically safe gravity theory. 展开更多

One of the major open problems in theoretical physics is the lack of a consistent quantum gravity theory.Recent developments in our knowledge on thermodynamic phase transitions of black holes and their van der Waalslike behavior may provide an interesting quantum interpretation of classical gravity.Studying different methods of investigating phase transitions can extend our understanding of the nature of quantum gravity.In this paper,we present an alternative theoretical approach for finding thermodynamic phase transitions in the extended phase space.Unlike the standard methods based on the usual equation of state involving temperature,our approach uses a new quasiequation constructed from the slope of temperature versus entropy.This approach addresses some of the shortcomings of the other methods and provides a simple and powerful way of studying the critical behavior of a thermodynamical system.Among the applications of this approach,we emphasize the analytical demonstration of possible phase transition points and the identification of the non-physical range of horizon radii for black holes. 展开更多
