Methods Acupuncture was applied at the eight points surrounding the umbilicus: bilateral Tianshu (天枢ST 25), Huaroumen (滑肉门ST 24) and Wailing (外陵ST 26), Yinjiao (阴交CV 7) and Shuifen (水分CV 9), and also Guanyuan (关元CV 4) and Zusanli (足三里ST 36), and the ear embedding method was used in combination in 50 cases of simple obesity. The changes in FBG, INS, ISI, TC, TG, LDL-C and HDL-C after the treatment were observed. The changes in waistline (WL) and hip circumference (HC), their ratio (WL/HC), body weight (BW) and body mass index (BMI) after the treatment were also observed, and the therapeutic effects were compared between the patients with obesity in Grade Ⅰ and Grade Ⅱ. The aforementioned values were compared with those in the control group comprised of 30 normal subjects. Results Hyperinsulinemia (HI) appeared in the patients with simple obesity, and the value of ISI was obviously decreased, compared with that in normal subjects ( P<0.01 ). After the treatment, the values of WL, HC, WL/HC, BW and BMI were all obviously decreases ( P<0.05 ), and those of FBG, INS, TC, TG and LDL-C also reduced ( P<0.01 ), but those of ISI and HDL-C obviously increased ( P<0.05 ). Conclusion Acupuncture can not only efficiently improve the parameters in body fat in the patients with simple obesity, but also regulate their abnormal lipid metabolism and improve the situation of insulin resistance.展开更多

Methods BMD of lumbar spine and femoral neck were measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA)in 186 Chinese postmenopausal women. The PvuⅡ and XbaⅠ polymorphisms of the ER gene were detected using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Bone biochemical markers, serum alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin and pyridinoline were measured by ELISA. Results The femoral neck(FN) BMD (Z score) was higher in pp compared to Pp (-0.01±0.12 vs. -0.35±0.09, P<0.05) while lumbar spine BMD (Z score) was higher in XX type compared to Xx and xx genotypes (0.01±0.45 vs -1.53±0.17, -1.29±0.10, P<0.001 and 0.001, respectively). Women without Px haplotype (n=79) had a higher BMD Z-score for the lumbar spine (-1.03±0.14 vs -1.45±0.11, P<0.05) and femoral neck (-0.01±0.11 vs -0.31±0.09, P<0.05) than those who had it (n=107). Conclusions The present study suggested that the pp and XX genotypes of ER gene might play a certain role in maintaining FN and lumbar spine BMD. ER genotypes without Px haplotype might be favorable to bone mass, while those with it might exert some harmful effect on bone mineral density.展开更多

Methods: By the method "to benefit qi, strengthen the spleen, dissolve phlegm and remove turbidity", eight periumbilical acupoints, Tianshu (ST 25), Huaroumen (ST 24), Wailing (ST 26), Yinjiao (CV 7) and Shuifen (CV 9), and Guanyuan (CV 4) and Zusanli (ST 36) were used, in cooperation with ear-points-embedding method, and together with 30 healthy persons for comparison, in order to observe the changes in FBG, INS, ISI, TC, TG, LDLC and HDLC and to observe the changes in the waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-hip ratio, body weight and BMI in simple obesity patients before and after acupuncture treatments, and to observe the differences of the therapeutic effects between grade Ⅰ and grade Ⅱ obesity. Results: Hyperinsulinemia (HI) existed in the patients with simple obesity before the treatment, and ISI significantly decreased (P〈0.01) in comparison with the healthy group, and waist circumference, hip circumference, waist-hip ratio, body weight and BMI significantly decreased (P〈0.05, P〈0.01), and FBG, INS, TC, TG and LDLC also significantly decreased (P〈0.01, P〈0.05), and ISI and HDLC significantly increased (P〈0.05) after the treatment. Conclusion: Acupuncturecan not only effectively improve the body fat parameters but also regulate the abnormal fat metabolism and improve insulin resistance status in simple obesity patients.展开更多
