AIM: To examine the influences of personality characteristics and coping modes on the anxiety of primary glaucoma patients.METHODS: A total of 200 individuals, including 50 with primary angle-closure glaucoma, 60 with primary open angle glaucoma and 90 control participants, filled out the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, NEO Five-Factor Inventory, and Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire. Sociodemographic information was also collected. Data were analyzed via the Spearman rank correlation test and stepwise regression.RESULTS: The personality and coping variables are predictive and jointly account for a significant amount (45.3%-54.2%) of variance across the two subscales of anxiety measures. Notably, neuroticism seems to be most closely related to anxiety disturbances in glaucoma patients. The level of resignation is positively linked to anxiety scores.CONCLUSION: Some personality factors and coping modes help to predict the process of anxiety disorders in primary glaucoma patients. Recognizing the predictive role of these variables in the patients may further enrich clinical research in glaucoma and help to design more effective interventions involving both ophthalmology and psychiatry. 展开更多

Objective: To study the postoperative trauma of the retroperitoneal laparoscopic intrasinusal pyelolithotomy (RLIP) and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Methods: A total of 118 patients who were diagnosed with single pelvis calculus in Shanghai Punan Hospital of Pudong New District between September 2013 and February 2017 were selected and randomly divided into RLIP group and PCNL group who received retroperitoneal laparoscopic intrasinusal pyelolithotomy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy respectively. The removal of the stones was observed 1 week and 4 weeks after surgery, and 3mL of cubital venous blood was collected 3 d and 7 d after operation to detect the renal function indicators, inflammatory markers and stress indicators. Results: The stone removal success rate of RLIP group 1 week and 4 weeks after operation were significantly higher than those of PCNL group, serum BUN, Scr and Cys-C contents as well as eGFR levels were not significantly different between RLIP group and PCNL group 3 d and 7 d after operation, and serum Cor, NE, HSP70, NO, IL-6, hs-CRP, TNF-α and PGE2 contents of RLIP group 3 d and 7 d after operation were significantly lower than those of PCNL group. Conclusion: RLIP is significantly better than PCNL in stone removal and causes significantly less postoperative trauma than PCNL. 展开更多

Objective: To study the efficacy and safety of Shuanghuang Shengbai Granule(双黄升白颗粒, SSG), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, on myelosuppression of cancer patients caused by chemotherapy. Methods: A total of 330 patients were randomly assigned to the treatment group(220 cases, analysed 209 cases) and the control group(110 cases, analysed 102 cases) with a 2:1 ratio by envelope method. The patients in the treatment group at the first day of chemotherapy started to take SSG for 14 days, while the patients in the control group took Leucogon Tablets. The changes of the blood routine, clinical symptoms and immune function in both groups were observed for safety and efficacy evaluation. Results: At the 7th day of chemotherapy, the white blood cells(WBCs) level in the treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P〈0.05). After treatment, the WBCs rate in the normal range accounted for 50.2% in the treatment group, the myelosuppression of WBCs and neutrophil were mainly grade Ⅰ, while 8.1% and 5.7% of patients emerged grade Ⅲ and grade Ⅳ myelosuppression, respectively. The incidence of myelosuppression of the treatment group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P〈0.05). The total effective rate of Chinese medicine syndrome in the treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group(84.2% vs. 72.5%, P〈0.05). The immune cell levels in both groups were maintained in the normal range. Compared with that before treatment, the levels of CD3~+ and CD4~+ cells were significantly increased in the treatment group after treatment(P〈0.05). The discrepancy of CD3~+ and CD4~+ cell activity before and after treatment in both groups were significantly different(P〈0.05). No obvious adverse event occurred in both groups. Conclusion: SSG had a protection effect on bone marrow suppression, and alleviated the clinical symptoms together with clinical safety. 展开更多

Proanthocyanidins naturally occur in various fruits,some vegetables and beverages.Increasing evidence has shown that dietary intake of proanthocyanidins is a promising alternative to tumor chemoprevention or chemotherapy.Grape seeds are the most abundant source of proanthocyanidins,and grape seed proanthocyanidins(GSPs)show an anticancer effect on hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),which accounts for approximately 85-90%of all primary liver malignancies.Although an increasing number of studies have investigated the effects of GSPs on HCC and the associated mechanisms,the precise mechanism of GSP therapy in HCC remains unclear.This study aimed to understand the cytotoxic effect of GSPs on HepG2 cells by investigating morphology and growth inhibition.Cell proliferation and apoptosis were estimated by an MTT assay and flow cytometry,and the protein expression of HepG2 cells was determined through Western blotting.The results indicated that GSPs could markedly inhibit HepG2 liver cancer cells and induce apoptosis,with the effects varying by dose and treatment time.Furthermore,GSPs inhibited the phosphorylation of extracellular regulated protein kinases(ERK),c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase(JNK),p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(p38 MAPK),IκBα,pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 1(PDK1),glycogen synthase kinase-3 beta(GSK3β)and protein kinase B(AKT),which accounted for the inactivation of mitogen-activated protein kinase/AKT(MAPK/AKT)pathways.These results indicate that GSPs are a potential source of natural chemopreventive agents for the treatment of HCC. 展开更多
