This paper describes carefully an approach to specifying the incident wave boundary conditions combined with a set sponge layer to absorb the reflected waves towards the incident boundary. Incorporated into a time-dependent numerical model, whose governing equations are the Boussinesq-type ones, the effectiveness of the approach is studied in detail. The general boundary conditions, describing the down-wave boundary conditions are also generalized to the case of random waves. The numerical model is in detail examined. The test cases include both the normal one-dimensional incident regular or random waves and the two-dimensional oblique incident regular waves. The calculated results show that the present approach is effective on damping the reflected waves towards the incident wave boundary.展开更多

The amplitude of leg joint stresses is a very important factor for the fatigue life of the platform. However, there are not many researches having been done on the mechanism and dynamic stress analysis of these leg joints. This paper focuses on the dynamic stress analysis and suppression methods of the leg joints of self-elevating platforms. Firstly, the dynamic stresses of the lattice leg joints are analyzed for a self-elevating platform by use of the 5th-order Stokes wave theory. Secondly, the axial and bending stresses are studied due to their large contributions to total stresses. And then, different joint types are considered and the leg-hull interface stiffness is analyzed for the improvement of the joint dynamic stress amplitude. Finally, some useful conclusions are drawn for the optimization design of the self-elevating platform.展开更多

The quality of production and deliver deadline will be influenced. Therefore, it is very significant to investigate the cause and control of transverse crack in repair welding. In this paper, both ends restraint crack experiment is developed to produce delay transverse crack for high strength steel. Metallographic results show that four types of cracks are found in repair welding metal zone and heat affected zone. Large chevron transverse cracks are found in repair welding zone. Lots of micro transverse cracks are found in inter-layer repair welding metal zone, root HAZ and two ends of repair welding individually. The distribution character and formation mechanism of the transverse crack are further analyzed through hardness testing and residual stress measurement.展开更多
