The power electronic transformer(PET) has recently emerged as a type of power converter. It features the basic functions of power conversion and isolation as well as additional functions related to power quality control. A novel PET for a distribution grid called a flexible power distribution unit is proposed in this paper, and the energy exchange mechanism between the network and the load is revealed. A 30 kW 600 VAC/220 VAC/110 VDC medium-frequency isolated prototype is developed and demonstrated. This paper also presents key control strategies of the PET for electrical distribution grid applications,especially under grid voltage disturbance conditions.Moreover, stability issues related to the grid-connected three-phase PET are discussed and verified with an impedance-based analysis. The PET prototype is tested, and it passes the voltage-disturbance ride-through function. The experimental results verify the power quality control abilities of the PET. 展开更多

Performance analysis of multiuser diversity scheduling schemes in FSO communication system

Taking into consideration the aperture averaging, the system performance of a point-to-multipoint free space optical(FSO) system for various multiuser diversity scheduling schemes is studied over exponentiated Weibull(EW) fading channels. The selection principles of greedy scheduling(GS), selective multiuser diversity scheduling(SMDS), proportional fair scheduling(PFS) and selective multiuser diversity scheduling with exponential rule(SMDS-ER) schemes are introduced and compared on the basis of time-varying behavior of turbulence channel fading in the present system. The analytical average capacity expressions for the GS and SMDS schemes are derived, respectively. Then, the relative capacity simulations for PFS and SMDS-ER schemes are also provided over EW fading channels with the binary phase shift keying(BPSK) modulation. The results show that the GS scheme obtains the maximum average capacity at the cost of the fairness of users. The SMDS-ER receives the minimum capacity, but it guarantees the fairness of users. The SMDS and PFS schemes can get balance between capacity and fairness. This study can be used for FSO system design. 展开更多

Cloud computing emerges as a new computing pattern that can provide elastic services for any users around the world. It provides good chances to solve large scale scientific problems with fewer efforts. Application deployment remains an important issue in clouds. Appropriate scheduling mechanisms can shorten the total completion time of an application and therefore improve the quality of service(QoS) for cloud users. Unlike current scheduling algorithms which mostly focus on single task allocation, we propose a deadline based scheduling approach for data-intensive applications in clouds. It does not simply consider the total completion time of an application as the sum of all its subtasks' completion time. Not only the computation capacity of virtual machine(VM) is considered, but also the communication delay and data access latencies are taken into account. Simulations show that our proposed approach has a decided advantage over the two other algorithms. 展开更多
