This paper deals with wave propagation and power coupling in blue-core helicon plasma driven by various antennas and frequencies.It is found that compared to non-blue-core mode,for blue-core mode,the wave can propagate in the core region,and it decays sharply outside the core.The power absorption is lower and steeper in radius for blue-core mode.Regarding the effects of antenna geometry for blue-core mode,it shows that half helix antenna yields the strongest wave field and power absorption,while loop antenna yields the lowest.Moreover,near axis,for antennas with m=+1,the wave field increases with axial distance.In the core region,the wave number approaches to a saturation value at much lower frequency for non-blue-core mode compared to blue-core mode.The total loading resistance is much lower for blue-core mode.These findings are valuable to understanding the physics of blue-core helicon discharge and optimizing the experimental performance of blue-core helicon plasma sources for applications such as space propulsion and material treatment. 展开更多

Failure mechanisms of power transformers are complex and uncertain; it is difficult to determine index weights of insulation state. Therefore, it is a challenge to acquire an accurate assessment of insulation state of power transformers. In this paper, an assessing strategy for transformer insulation is proposed base on part-division of transformer and a comprehensive weight determination method. An index system of transformer is established on the basis of part-division of transformer. Each index’s weight is consisted of two parts, the constant weight and the variable weight, which are determined by improved analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and entropy method respectively. Af- ter categorizing insulation state into four levels and standardizing assessing indexes, a Cauchy membership function is forged, and a fuzzy algorithm is employed to simulate the uncertainty of the insulation state. Finally, a confidence criterion is employed to perform part-division based condition assessment of transformer. Case studies reveal that the proposed assessing strategy method is effective, convenient, and practical; with the new strategy, potential failures of transformers can be forecasted and insulation state of transformer parts can also be as- sessed. Furthermore, the assessing results can be used to guide condition-based maintenance. 展开更多

Surface flashover is a crucial issue for the miniaturisation of electronic facilities in military,industrial,and aerospace engineering.The oriented hexagonal boron nitride(hBN)composites,due to excellent thermal and electrical insulating properties,show a potential application in high-voltage power equipment,while the surface flashover performance of hBN composites dependent on oriented hBN texture is rarely reported.The effects of hBN orientation and contents on the surface flashover performances of oriented hBN composites are investigated.The isothermal surface potential decay of the oriented hBN composites was also studied.It is found that the charge transportation could be adjusted by the hBN orientation,thus regulating surface flashover strength.The DC flashover voltage of the in-plane oriented hBN composites with a thickness of 15μm reached the maximum of 27.6 kV at the hBN loading of 20 wt%,14.5%higher than that of the pure resin.The carrier mobility of out-of-plane oriented hBN composites is about three times greater than that of the in-plane oriented composites,indicating that the charges are easily transported along the hBN basal plane.The larger carrier mobility causes charge dissipation in composites near the electrode at the hBN basal plane parallel to the axis of electrodes and inhibits the distortion of the surface electric field on the composites,thus enhancing the surface flashover.Consequently,developing oriented insulators for highvoltage applications and enabling an optimum insulation design would be beneficial because of the compactness and high reliability of power apparatus for use in power grids. 展开更多

This work is carried out to predict the special distribution of electric field induced by multi-circuit intersecting overhead high-voltage (HV) transmission lines (TLs) within a large range without any expensive and time-consuming computation. The two main parts of the presented methodology are 1) setting up a three-dimensional (3D) model to calculate the electric field based on combining ca- tenary equations with charge simulation method and 2) calculating the hybrid electric field excited by multi-circuit intersecting TLs using coordinate transformation and superposition technique. Examples of different TLs configurations, including a 220 kV single-circuit hori- zontally configured TLs, a 500 kV single-circuit triangularly configured TLs and a combination of the 220 kV TLs and the 550 kV TLs, are illustrated to verify the validity of this methodology. A more complicatal configurations, including a 500 kV double-circuit TLs and two 220 kV single-circuit horizontally configured TLs, are also calculated. Conclusions were drawn from the simulation: 1) The presented 3D model outperforms 2D models in describing the electric field distribution generated by practical HV TLs with sag and span. 2) Coordinate trans- formation and superposition technique considerably simplify the electric field computation for multi-circuit TLs configurations, which makes it possible to deal with complex engineering problems. 3) The electric field in the area covered by multiple intersecting overhead TLs is distorted and the hybrid electric field strength in some partial region increases so sharply that it might exceed the admissible value. 4) The configuration parameters of the TLs and the spatial configuration of multi-circuit TLs, for instance, the height of TLs, the length of span and the intersection angle of multiple circuits, influence the strength and the distribution of hybrid electric field. The influence regularities sum- marized in this paper can be referred by future TL designs to meet the electromagnetic environmental protection regulations. 展开更多

This study investigated the feasibility of distance protection in extra-high voltage(EHV) networks. In long-distance transmission lines, the distributed parameter characteristic of the EHV network is obvious. When a fault occurs far away from the measurement site, the measured impedance might not be directly proportional to the fault distance, and the protection domain of distance protection will be decreased. The detailed theory inferred and proven in this paper reveals that this phenomenon is widespread in EHV transmission lines. The results indicate that the protection domain error is greatly reduced by the application of the shunt reactor. Overall, simulation results show that the proposed method is effective for impedance relay, considering different characteristics, different lengths of lines, and compensation degrees. 展开更多

The choice of the UHV lines depends on surface electric field of the bundle conductors.Based on existing calculation methods,the optimized charge simulation method is used to calculate the conductors' surface electrical field of±800 kV UHVDC transmission lines in this paper.During calculation,the offset distance is set as the variance of the objective function,the position and the quantity of the simulation charges are optimized with the gold section method,and the surface electrical field is calculated when the charge is in the optimal position.The result shows that the distribution of the surface electrical field and its maximal value can be calculated accurately with this method,although less number of simulation charges is used in this proposed method and the calculation is simple. 展开更多

Large-scale doubly-fed induction generator(DFIG)wind turbines are connected to the grid and required to remain grid-connection during faults,the short-circuit current contributed by the generation has become a significant issue.However,the traditional calculation methods aiming at synchronous generators cannot be directly applied to the DFIG wind turbines.A new method is needed to calculate the short-circuit current required by the planning,protection and control of the power grid.The short-circuit transition of DFIG under symmetrical and asymmetric short-circuit conditions are mathematically deduced,and the short-circuit characteristics of DFIG are analyzed.A new method is proposed to calculate the steady-state short-circuit current of DFIG based on the derived expressions.The time-domain simulations are conducted to verify the accuracy of the proposed method. 展开更多

An adaptive fast multipole higher order boundary element method combining fast multipole (FM) with a higher order boundary element method is studied to solve the power frequency electric field (PFEF) of substations. In this new technique, the iterative equation solver GMRES is used in the FM, where matrix-vector multiplications are calculated using fast multipole expansions. The coefficients in the preconditioner for GMRES are stored and are used repeatedly in the direct evaluations of the near-field contributions. Then a 500kV outdoor substation is modeled and the PFEF of the substation is analyzed by the novel algorithm and other conventional methods. The results show that, in computational cost and the storages capability aspects, the algorithm proposed in this study has obvious advantages. It is suitable for the calculation of the large-scale PFEF in complex substations and the design of electromagnetic compatibility. 展开更多

Magnetic radiation phenomena appear inevitably in the magnetic-resonance wireless power transfer (MR-WPT) system, and regarding this problem the magnetic-shielding scheme is applied to improve the electromagnetic performance in engineering. In this study, the shielding effectiveness of a two-coil MR-WPT system for different material shields is analyzed in theory using Moser's formula and Schelkunoff's formula. On this basis a candidate magnetic-shielding scheme with a double-layer structure is determined, which has better shielding effectiveness and coils coupling coefficient. Finally, some finite element simulation results validate the correctness of the theoretical analysis, and the shielding effectiveness with the double-layer shield in maximum is 30?dB larger than the one with the single-layer case. 展开更多

The operation data obtained abroad indicates that shielding failure in UHV transmission lines mostly accounts for the tripping-out accidents introduced by lightning striking the transmission line.Based on the discharge theories of long air gap and randomness theory,a leader progression model of lightning shielding failure is presented in this paper.The random characteristics of the downward and upward leader are simulated in this model.The ground slope angel is also considered in this model by using coordinate transformation.Moreover,the system voltage is also taken into consideration in this model.The simulation results show that the good agreement between this model and the field data.And the results suggest that return striking exist obviously in UHV transmission line. 展开更多

The power transformer is the key equipment of transforming voltage and exchanging power in the power system.It's safe and reliable operation directly influences the safe level of the power system.To study the risk assessment of power transformer which is very significant to improve the reliability of the power system,a fuzzy comprehensive risk assessment model of power transformer based on Borda number theory is proposed in this paper.At first,the fault types and risk factors of the power transformer are analyzed.Secondly,the basic framework of the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation is applied to quantify the risk factors.And then,Borda number theory is employed to analyze influence degree and occurrence probability of power transformer.At last,the various risk factors impact index and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation index of power transformer can be easily obtained.Applying this model,the relative importance degree of the risk factors can be horizontally compared according to the numerical index,the engineering staff can directly get the parameters of the transformer risk level and get a good description of the visual expression through using 5 score and similar visual language. 展开更多

In this article, the stochastic properties of overhead lines’ strength and loads were used, according to principles of structural reliability, time-dependent failure probability model of overhead lines was established under the impact of strong wind and rain loads. Simulation of the IEEE-79 system demonstrates that failure probability model is effective. This simulation result also shows that the impact of strong wind and rain loads will seriously affect reliability indices of system loads, rain loads cannot be ignored under strong wind and rain loads. 展开更多

Short-Term Reliability Evaluation of Transmission System Using Lightning Strike Probability Prediction

The transmission lines are exposed to the atmosphere nature and will be affected by adverse weather such as lightning storm, so that it will affect the reliability of transmission system. This paper studies the fault probability model of transmission line during the lightning storm, and evaluates the short-term reliability of transmission system in the forecasting weather condition. Firstly, build the lightning strike fault probability model of the transmission line based on historical lightning record information, then calculate the lightning strike probability under the forecasting weather conditions, furthermore evaluate the reliability index of transmission system. Utilizing IEEE RTS-79 system to verify the validity of the proposed model and the results show that lightning has great negative influence on the transmission lines and the reliability of transmission system. The reliability evaluation model proposed in this paper can guide the short-term operation and online scheduling for transmission system operators. 展开更多

Recently,poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)-based solid polymer electrolytes have been attracting great attention,and efforts are currently underway to develop PEO-based composite electrolytes for next generation high performance all-solid-state lithium metal batteries.In this article,a novel sandwich structured solid-state PEO composite electrolyte is developed for high performance all-solid-state lithium metal batteries.The PEO-based composite electrolyte is fabricated by hot-pressing PEO,LiTFSI and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) MXene nanosheets into glass fiber cloth(GFC).The as-prepared GFC@PEO-MXene electrolyte shows high mechanical properties,good electrochemical stability,and high lithium-ion migration number,which indicates an obvious synergistic effect from the microscale GFC and the nanoscale MXene.Such as,the GFC@PEO-1 wt%MXene electrolyte shows a high tensile strength of 43.43 MPa and an impressive Young's modulus of 496 MPa,which are increased by 1205%and 6048%over those of PEO.Meanwhile,the ionic conductivity of GFC@PEO-1 wt%MXene at 60℃ reaches 5.01×10^(-2) S m^(-1),which is increased by around 200%compared with that of GFC@PEO electrolyte.In addition,the Li/Li symmetric battery based on GFC@PEO-1 wt%MXene electrolyte shows an excellent cycling stability over 800 h(0.3 mA cm^(-2),0.3 mAh cm^(-2)),which is obviously longer than that based on PEO and GFC@PEO electrolytes due to the better compatibility of GFC@PEO-1 wt%MXene electrolyte with Li anode.Furthermore,the solid-state Li/LiFePO_(4) battery with GFC@PEO-1 wt%MXene as electrolyte demonstrates a high capacity of 110.2–166.1 mAh g^(-1) in a wide temperature range of 25–60C,and an excellent capacity retention rate.The developed sandwich structured GFC@PEO-1 wt%MXene electrolyte with the excellent overall performance is promising for next generation high performance all-solid-state lithium metal batteries. 展开更多

Transistors have been reshaping our lives since their initial appearance in the 1940s.As the central element of logic gates and integrated circuits(chips),they undoubtedly play an incomparable role in promoting the development of computers,smartphones,flat panel displays,Internet of Things,and even all electronic or electrical systems.The past decades have witnessed dominant transistors usually made from inorganic semiconductors such as silicon materials and metal oxides,which are advantageous to achieve high mobility,fast switching speed,and excellent stability.Thus,silicon transistors and metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors have been broadly used for electronic applications.However,these transistors are rigid and nearly approaching the fundamental limits on speed and power consumption,despite being manufactured at a much smaller scale to meet the projection of Moore’s law.As future transistors with mechanical flexibility/robustness and low-power consumption are demanded,innovation in functional materials,device configurations,and integrated processing techniques to facilitate the evolution from rigid devices to soft,durable,and biocompatible devices is imperative. 展开更多

With the trend of multiple energies or flexible demand in power systems,binary variables appear in systemwide constraints,which are the foundation of marginal pricing currently in markets.An appropriate pricing method incentivizes compliance of market participants;otherwise,compliance can be incentivized by paying discriminatory uplift payments which jeopardize transparency of markets.This paper proposes two theorems to examine whether the binary variables brought by multiple energies and flexible demand will impact compliance under marginal pricing.The first theorem shows sufficient conditions with which marginal pricing with fixed binary variables incentivizes compliance,while the second theorem shows sufficient conditions to require uplift payments.To improve transparency by reducing uplift payments under cases which fall into the second theorem,this paper further proposes a pricing method by combining 1)designed constraints to price binary variables in system-wide constraints,and 2)convex hull pricing to price binary variables in private constraints.Effectiveness of the proposed theorems and pricing method is verified in an electricity-gas case(consisting of the IEEE 30-bus system and the NGS 10-node system)and the IEEE 118-bus test system. 展开更多

Efforts to protect electric power systems from faults have commonly relied on the use of ultra-high frequency(UHF)antennas for detecting partial discharge(PD)as a common precursor to faults.However,the effectiveness of existing UHF antennas suffers from a number of challenges such as limited bandwidth,relatively large physical size,and low detection sensitivity.The present study addresses these issues by proposing a compact microstrip patch antenna with fixed dimensions of 100 mm×100 mm×1.6 mm.The results of computations yield an optimized antenna design consisting of 2nd-order Hilbert fractal units positioned within a four-layer serpentine arrangement with a fractal unit connection distance of 3.0 mm.Specifically,the optimized antenna design achieves a detection bandwidth for which the voltage standing wave ratio is less than 2 that is approximately 97.3%of the UHF frequency range(0.3–3 GHz).Finally,a prototype antenna is fabricated using standard printed circuit board technology,and the results of experiments demonstrate that the proposed antenna is capable of detecting PD signals at a distance of 8 m from the discharge source. 展开更多
