The Levenberg-Marquardt method, the best algorithm to obtain the least-square solution of nonlinear equations, is applied to calculate the stable phase equilibria. It can get the best combination between robustness and speed of the calculations. Its application to ternary AI-Si-Mg system is executed in detail. The calculated phase equilibria agree well with the experimental results. Furthermore, the Levenberg-Marquardt method is not sensitive to the initial values. 展开更多

Straight plates, hollow columns, ear-like blade tips, twist plates withdirectional solidification microstructure made of Rene 95 superalloys were successfully fabricatedon Nickel-base superalloy and DD3 substrates, respectively. The processing conditions for productionof the parts with corresponding shapes were obtained. The fabrication precision was high and thecomponents were compact. The solidification microstructure of the parts was analyzed by opticalmicroscopy. The results show that the solidification microstructure is composed of columnardendrites, by epitaxial growth onto the directional solidification substrates. The crystallographyorientation of the parts was parallel to that of the substrates. The primary arm spacing was about10 mum, which is in the range of superfine dendrites, and the secondary arm was small or evendegenerated. It is concluded that the laser metal forming technique provides a method to manufacturedirectional solidification components. 展开更多

The interphase boundary evolution of ordered phase in Ni75AlxV25-x alloy during precipitation was simulated on atomic-scale based on the microscopic phase-field dynamic model. The results show that the second phase precipitated from the interphase boundary formed by the first phase and the disordered matrix at high temperature, and from the interphase boundaries of the first phase at low temperature. L12 phase had obvious selective orientation when precipitated from the interphase boundaries of D022- L12 phase nucleated easily at the interphase boundaries formed by [10] and [01] directions of D022 projection along [001] direction, and grew easily at [10] direction. There was no the selective orientation when L12 phase precipitated from the interphase boundary formed by D022 and the disordered matrix. D022 phase had the selective orientation when precipitated from the interphase boundaries of L12, and grew along the [10] direction. 展开更多

A method to predict the solid-liquid interface stability during unidirectional solidification is developed by coupling M-S model with CALPHAD method. The method was applied to AI-0.38 Zn and AI-0.34 Si-0.14 Mg (wt pct) alloys, and the predicted results were compared with some former experimental data of the two alloys. The good agreement between the calculation results and the experimental data demonstrates the superiority of the present method to the classical one based on constant parameter assumptions. 展开更多

The detailed laser surface remelting experiments of Cu-31.4 wt pct Mn and Cu-26.6 wt pct Mn alloys on a 5 kW CO2 laser were carried out to study the effects of processing parameters (scanning velocity, output power of laser) on the growth direction of microstructure in the molten pool and cellular spacing selection under the condition of ultra-high temperature gradient and rapid directional solidification. The experimental results show that the growth direction of microstructure is strongly affected by laser processing parameters. The ultra-high temperature gradient directional solidification can be realized on the surface of samples during laser surface remelting by controlling laser processing parameters, the temperature gradient and growth velocity can reach 106 K/m and 24.1 mm/s, respectively, and the solidification microstructure in the center of the molten pool grows along the laser beam scanning direction. There exists a distribution range of cellular spacings under the laser rapid solidification conditions, and the average spacing decreases with increasing of growth rate. The maximum, λmax, minimum, λmin, and average primary spacing, A, as functions of growth rate, Vb, can be given by,λmax=12.54Vb-0.61, λmin=4.47 Vb-0.52, λ=9.09Vb-0.62, respectively. The experimental results are compared with the current Hunt-Lu model for rapid cellular/dendritic growth, and a good agreement is found. 展开更多
