African swine fever and meat prices fluctuation:An empirical study in China based on TVP-VAR model

African swine fever(ASF),a fatal disease outbroken in China in August 2018,has widely attracted social concern especially in the information era.The occurrence of ASF led to an imbalance between supply and demand in pork and other meat markets.As a result,meat prices fluctuated greatly during the past year in 2019.To measure ASF quantitatively,the internet public concern index about ASF was created using web crawler methods.The relationships between ASF and meat prices were analyzed based on time-varying parameter vector auto-regressive(TVP-VAR)model.The results showed that there were some differences in the impact size,direction and duration of ASF on the prices of pork,chicken,beef and mutton,and the characteristics of time variability and heterogeneity were obvious.At the same time,the impact of ASF on meat prices is not consistent with the trend and degree of ASF.The impulse intensity is strongly correlated with the strength and duration of ASF,and it is generally weak in the early stage and much stronger in the middle and late periods.The results indicate that macro regulations,monitoring and early-warning system,standardizing production and circulation,and the public opinion monitoring and guidance about ASF should be given more attention in future to stabilize the market expectations and to promote a smooth functioning of the livestock markets.

Spatio-temporal Variations of Temperature and Precipitation During 1951–2019 in Arid and Semiarid Region, China

Understanding the spatio-temporal variations of temperature and precipitation in the arid and semiarid region of China(ASRC)is of great significance for promoting regional eco-environmental protection and policy-making.In this study,the annual and seasonal spatio-temporal patterns of change in average temperature and precipitation and their influencing factors in the ASRC were analyzed using the Mann-Kendall test,linear tendency estimation,accumulative anomaly and the Pearson’s correlation coefficient.The results showed that both annual average temperature and average annual precipitation increased in the ASRC during 1951–2019.The temperature rose by about 1.93℃and precipitation increased by about 24 mm.The seasonal average temperature presented a significant increase trend,and the seasonal precipitation was conspicuous ascension in spring and winter.The spatio-temporal patterns of change in temperature and precipitation differed,with the southwest area showing the most obvious variation in each season.Abrupt changes in annual and seasonal average temperature and precipitation occurred mainly around the 1990 s and after 2000,respectively.Atmospheric circulation had an important effect on the trends and abrupt changes in temperature and precipitation.The East Asian summer monsoon had the largest impact on the trend of average annual temperature,as well as on the abrupt changes of annual average temperature and precipitation.Temperature and precipitation changes in the ASRC were influenced by long-term and short-term as well as direct and indirect anthropogenic and natural factors.This study identifies the characteristics of spatio-temporal variations in temperature and precipitation in the ASRC and provides a scientific reference for the formulation of climate change responses.

The Patterns of Complementary Feeding and Growth among 12 to 23 Month-Old Children in China

Objective This study aimed to understand the characteristics of dietary patterns among children aged12 to 23 months and discusses the relationship between dietary patterns and the growth of children.Method Cross-sectional data were selected from the National Nutrition and Health Systematic Survey for 0 to 18 year-old children in China(n=2,449)to describe the patterns of complementary feeding and the growth of children.Cluster analysis was used to analyze complementary feeding patterns,and an analysis of variance and Bonferroni test were conducted to analyze the relationship between Z scores and complementary feeding patterns.Results Four dietary patterns were identified among the children via cluster analysis.In Pattern 4(n=104,4.2%),children still consumed milk as their staple food.They displayed the lowest grain,fruit,vegetable,egg,and flesh foods consumption,a medium frequency of breast milk consumption,and a high frequency of dairy product consumption.Pattern 4 had the lowest length-for-age Z scores and weight-for-age Z scores,with-0.10±1.34 and 0.24±1.00,respectively(F=7.940,P<0.001;F=5.317,P<0.001).Conclusion Although China is undergoing rapid urbanization and economic development,there is still a phenomenon of insufficient intake of protein-rich foods and dairy-based dietary patterns at the stage of complementary food introduced among children aged 12 to 23 months.

An Automated Detection Approach of Protective Equipment Donning for Medical Staff under COVID-19 Using Deep Learning

Personal protective equipment(PPE)donning detection for medical staff is a key link of medical operation safety guarantee and is of great significance to combat COVID-19.However,the lack of dedicated datasets makes the scarce research on intelligence monitoring of workers’PPE use in the field of healthcare.In this paper,we construct a dress codes dataset for medical staff under the epidemic.And based on this,we propose a PPE donning automatic detection approach using deep learning.With the participation of health care personnel,we organize 6 volunteers dressed in different combinations of PPE to simulate more dress situations in the preset structured environment,and an effective and robust dataset is constructed with a total of 5233 preprocessed images.Starting from the task’s dual requirements for speed and accuracy,we use the YOLOv4 convolutional neural network as our learning model to judge whether the donning of different PPE classes corresponds to the body parts of the medical staff meets the dress codes to ensure their self-protection safety.Experimental results show that compared with three typical deeplearning-based detection models,our method achieves a relatively optimal balance while ensuring high detection accuracy(84.14%),with faster processing time(42.02 ms)after the average analysis of 17 classes of PPE donning situation.Overall,this research focuses on the automatic detection of worker safety protection for the first time in healthcare,which will help to improve its technical level of risk management and the ability to respond to potentially hazardous events.

Analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on some medical institutions in a certain region

Objective:This study is designed to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on hospitals in a certain region through the statistical comparison of outpatient,emergency and inpatient data of three representative AAA hospitals in this region from January and February of 2019 and 2020.Methods:Relevant outpatient,emergency and inpatient data of three representative AAA hospitals in a certain region from January and February of 2019 and 2020 were collected,and the statistical analysis was conducted by using EXCEL 2019 and SPSS20.0.Results:In January and February of 2020,the number of the outpatient,the emergency,the inpatient and the inpatient surgical interventions in the three hospitals was significantly decreased in comparison with the same period in 2019,and the change of the emergency dispatching amount was relatively small.The mortality of the inpatient in January and February in 2020 was about 2.82%,and that in the same period in 2019 was about 1.51%,with an increase of about 1.31%,which presented a statistically significant difference(χ^(2)=348.422;p=.000).Conclusions:The outbreak of COVID-19 had a great impact on the normal operation of the hospital.

Healthy Lifestyles and Chronic Pain with New-Onset Metabolic-Related Multimorbidity among Older Adults—China,2011–2018

Summary What is already known about this topic?Chronic pain has been identified as a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.Evidence shows that adopting a healthy lifestyle can help reduce the cardiometabolic risks associated with chronic pain.What is added by this report?Results from this cohort study suggest a positive association between chronic pain and the development of new-onset metabolic-related multimorbidity,specifically metabolic multimorbidity and cardiometabolic comorbidity,within middle-aged and older Chinese adults.Furthermore,adopting healthy lifestyles can potentially mitigate or even reverse these associations.What are the implications for public health practice?The results of our study emphasize the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles among older Chinese adults as a preventative measure against the medical burdens and cardiometabolic risks associated with chronic pain.
