Purpose:To explore the application effect of the cultivation mode of Curriculum Ideology and Political Integration of Medical Humanities to enhance the core values of medicine in the clinical internship stage of medical students.Methods:Students in the clinical internship stage of the First Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College were selected,and a total of 156 students in one random class in each grade were taken as the observation group and received the integration cultivation mode;148 students were taken as the control group and employed the traditional mode.The teaching effect of interns in the two groups was analyzed.Results:The teaching performance of students in both groups after clinical internship teaching was improved compared with that before admission;the teaching performance,teaching effect,teaching evaluation,and teaching satisfaction of the observation group were higher than that of the control group.Conclusion:The integration of the medical humanities training model with curriculum ideology and politics in the clinical internship of medical students is conducive to the improvement of teaching performance,teaching evaluation,teaching satisfaction of teachers and students,and the development and improvement of core values of medical students,which is of good value for teaching application. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Stroke is the second and third leading cause of death and disability,respectively.To date,no definitive treatment can repair lost brain function.Recently,various preclinical studies have been reported on mesenchymal stromal cells(MSCs)and their derivatives and their potential as alternative therapies for stroke.CASE SUMMARY A 45-year-old female suffered an acute stroke,which led to paralysis in the left upper and lower limbs.The amniotic membrane MSC-derived secretome(MSCsecretome)was intravenously transplanted once a week for 4 wk.MSC-secretomeregulated regulatory T cells were investigated for the beneficial effects.The clinical improvement of this patient was accompanied by an increased frequency of regulatory T cells after transplantation.CONCLUSION Intravenous administration of MSC-secretome can potentially treat patients who suffer from acute ischemic stroke. 展开更多

Objective: This study was to investigate the role of hsa-miR-155-3p and hsa-miR-155-5p as biomarkers and regulators of biological behavior in Systemic Sclerosis. Methods: A total of 10 SSc patients and 10 healthy controls were selected for the study. The expression levels of hsa-miR-155-3p and hsa-miR-155-5p in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of SSc patients and healthy controls were measured using RT-qPCR. The diagnostic value of these miRNAs was explored using Receiver Operating Characteristic curve analysis. Pearson or Spearman correlation analysis was performed to assess the correlation between miRNAs and clinical indicators in SSc patients. Potential target genes of hsa-miR-155-3p and hsa-miR-155-5p were predicted using miRDB, Targetscan, and miRDIP databases. GO functional annotation, KEGG pathway enrichment analysis, protein-protein interaction network construction, and selection of central genes were conducted. Results: The expression levels of hsa-miR-155-3p and hsa- miR-155-5p were significantly higher in PBMCs of SSc patients compared to healthy controls (P<0.001). The ROC curve analysis showed that hsa-miR-155-3p and hsa-miR-155-5p had a high diagnostic value for SSc (AUC=1, P<0.001). Correlation analysis revealed that hsa- miR-155-3p, hsa-miR-155-5p, and clinical indicators such as high-resolution CT, neutrophil percentage, lymphocyte percentage, and albumin to globulin ratio were correlated (P<0.05). The signaling pathways enriched with target genes of hsa-miR-155-3p and hsa-miR-155- 5p were closely associated with the occurrence and development of SSc fibrosis, immunity, and inflammation. Conclusions: hsa-miR-155-3p and hsa-miR-155-5p may be involved in regulating the occurrence and development of SSc fibrosis, immunity, and inflammation. They have the potential to serve as biomarkers for clinical diagnosis and treatment of SSc. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the effects of intrauterine infection in different periods on the placenta and endometrial blood vessel formation of pregnant rats and the growth and development of fetal rats.Methods:According to the random number table method,32 pregnant rats were divided into the early infection group,the mid-term infection group,the late infection group and the control group,with 8 rats in each group.On the 3rd,9th and 15th day of pregnancy,lipopolysaccharide was injected intraperitoneally to construct intrauterine infection models.The pregnant rats in the control group were intraperitoneally injected with the same dose of 0.9%sodium chloride solution.On the 18th day of pregnancy,the inflammatory factors[interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-(TNF-)],the blood vessel density of placenta and endometrium in the placental tissues of pregnant rats,dead fetus+absorbed fetus,the inflammatory factors IL-6,TNF-and oxidation reaction indicators[malondialdehyde(MDA)and myeloperoxidase(MPO)]in the fetal rat lung and brain tissues were detected.Results:The changing trend of IL-6 and TNF-levels in the placental tissues of pregnant rats with intrauterine infection in different periods was:the control group<the late infection group<the mid-term infection group<the early infection group,the differences were statistically significant(p<.05).The changing trend of fetal rat weight,placental weight and placental coefficient in the intrauterine infection groups in different periods was:the control group>the late infection group>the mid-term infection group>the early infection group,the differences were statistically significant(p<.05).The blood vessel density of placenta and endometrium,the mean number of fetuses,brain coefficient and lung coefficient in the late infection group were significantly increased in comparison with the early infection group and the mid-term infection group.The total number and the ratio of dead fetus+absorbed fetus,the levels of IL-6,TNF-,MDA and MPO in brain and lung tissues were significantly reduced,and the differences were statistically significant(p<.05).The blood vessel density of placenta and endometrium,brain coefficient and lung coefficient of pregnant rats in the mid-term infection group were significantly increased in comparison with the early infection group,and the differences were statistically significant(p<.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the other indicators between the two groups(p>.05).Conclusions:Intrauterine infection in different periods can inhibit placental and endometrial angiogenesis,and affect the survival rate of fetal rats and the growth and development of brain and lung.The reason may be related to the aggravation of fetal inflammatory responses and oxidative stress.The earlier the intrauterine infection occurs,the severer the adverse effects on the fetal rats will be. 展开更多

The antigen gene of ABO blood group system,called ABO,is located on human chromosome 9,with a total length of 19.5 kb.It is the first blood group system found by human beings.[1]ABO blood group subtypes are formed by ABO genovariation,i.e.,gene A variation for A subtype,gene B variation for B subtype and gene O variation for new O alleles.ABO subtypes contain A3,Ax,Ael,Aw,Am,B3,Bx,Bel,Bw,cis-AB,B(A).Generally,an individual with AB blood group has an A allele on one chromosome,with B allele on its paired chromosome.This phenomenon is called trans-AB.However,cis-AB is a unique ABO phenotype that A and B alleles are located on the same chromosome,so that it can be inherited by the next generation.[2]This special mode of inheritance often causes a discrepancy of ABO blood grouping and then reduces the effectiveness and safety of blood transfusion.Therefore,to accurately identify the blood group of cis-AB is a precondition for the safety of blood transfusion.[3]The serological and genotyping analysis on a case of cis-AB patient in our hospital is reported as follows. 展开更多

Hypoxic preconditioning has been shown to improve hypoxic tolerance in mice,accompanied by the downregulation of DNA methyltransferases(DNMTs)in the brain.However,the roles played by DNMTs in the multiple neuroprotective mechanisms associated with hypoxic preconditioning remain poorly understood.This study aimed to establish an in vitro model of hypoxic preconditioning,using a cultured mouse hippocampal neuronal cell line(HT22 cells),to examine the effects of DNMTs on the endogenous neuroprotective mechanisms that occur during hypoxic preconditioning.HT22 cells were divided into a control group,which received no exposure to hypoxia,a hypoxia group,which was exposed to hypoxia once,and a hypoxic preconditioning group,which was exposed to four cycles of hypoxia.To test the ability of hypoxic preadaptation to induce hypoxic tolerance,cell viability was measured using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5(3-carboxymethonyphenol)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium assay.Cell viability improved in the hypoxic preconditioning group compared with that in the hypoxia group.The effects of hypoxic preconditioning on the cell cycle and apoptosis in HT22 cells were examined by western blot assay and flow cytometry.Compared with the hypoxia group,the expression levels of caspase-3 and spectrin,which are markers of early apoptosis and S-phase arrest,respectively,noticeably reduced in the hypoxic preconditioning group.Finally,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,real-time polymerase chain reaction,and western blot assay were used to investigate the changes in DNMT expression and activity during hypoxic preconditioning.The results showed that compared with the control group,hypoxic preconditioning downregulated the expression levels of DNMT3A and DNMT3B mRNA and protein in HT22 cells and decreased the activities of total DNMTs and DNMT3B.In conclusion,hypoxic preconditioning may exert anti-hypoxic neuroprotective effects,maintaining HT22 cell viability and inhibiting cell apoptosis.These neuroprotective mechanisms may be associated with the inhibition of DNMT3A and DNMT3B. 展开更多

Objective:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a lethal global disease that requires an accurate diagnosis.We assessed the potential of 5 serum biomarkers(AFP,AFU,GGT-II,GPC3,and HGF)in the diagnosis of HCC.Methods:In this retrospective study,we measured the serum levels of each biomarker using ELISAs in 921 participants,including 298 patients with HCC,154 patients with chronic hepatitis(CH),122 patients with liver cirrhosis(LC),and 347 healthy controls from 3 hospitals.Patients negative for hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis C antibody(called"NBNC-HCC")and patients positive for the above indices(called"HBV-HCC and HCV-HCC")were enrolled.The selected diagnostic model was constructed using a training cohort(n=468),and a validation cohort(n=453)was used to validate our results.Receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy.Results:Theα-L-fucosidase(AFU)/α-fetoprotein(AFP)combination was best able to distinguish NBNC-HCC[area under the curve:0.986(95%confidence interval:0.958–0.997),sensitivity:92.6%,specificity:98.9%]from healthy controls in the test cohort.For screening populations at risk of developing HCC(CH and LC),the AFP/AFU combination improved the diagnostic specificity for early-stage HCC[area under the curve:0.776(0.712–0.831),sensitivity:52.5%,specificity:91.6%in the test group].In all-stage HBV-HCC and HCV-HCC,AFU was also the best candidate biomarker combined with AFP[area under the curve:0.835(0.784–0.877),sensitivity 69.1%,specificity:87.4%in the test group].All results were verified in the validation group.Conclusions:The AFP/AFU combination could be used to identify NBNC-HCC from healthy controls and hepatitis-related HCC from at-risk patients. 展开更多

What would be great is to develop the ionic probes without any toxicities themselves. Here, we report a friendly, highly sensitive mercury(II) ionic probe, watersoluble photoluminescence carbon dots which were synthesized by simply hydrothermal treatment of fresh cherry tomatoes without adding any other reagents. The ultra-small(\1 nm) carbon dots show robust excitation-depended photoluminescence under a wide p H range(4–10) or a strong ionic strength of up to 1 M, and the detection limit of mercury(II) has been determined as low as 18 n M. We envision such water-soluble, biocompatible carbon dots that could be applied to biolabeling, bio-imaging, and biosensing fields. 展开更多

Methods: The serum hs-CRP level was measured in all subjects (including the healthy). As to 177 ischemic stroke patients, they were subclassified based on causes and pathogenesis to explore the relationship between the serum hs-CRP level and CISS. Results: The serum hs-CRP level in the ischemic stroke group was significantly higher than that in the control group (p < .05). The difference of the serum hs-CRP levels in different Chinese ischemic stroke subtypes was of statistical significance (p < .05). Conclusions: The level of serum hs-CRP is closely associated with the incidence of the ischemic stroke, and the difference of the serum hs-CRP levels in different Chinese ischemic stroke subtypes is of statistical significance. 展开更多

Objective: The aim of our study was to analyze the character of cause of death in Inner Mongolia of China from 2008 to 2014. Methods: We collected data from monitoring points of the Death Registry System (DRS) in Inner Mongolia. We calculated the mortality rates by gender, year and age-specific. We calculated the proportion, the mortality rate and potential years of life lost (PYLL) of various system deaths. Results: During the period 2008-2014, the average crude mortality rate of all cause of death was 539.33/105. The mortality rate increased semilogarithm linearly with age. The top four system deaths were circulatory system, neoplasm, respiratory system and injury. In 2014, the mortality rates of circulatory system were increased and the mortality rates of certain infectious and parasitic diseases, neoplasms, respiratory system, genitourinary system and injury were decreased compared to those in 2008. Conclusion: Through analysis the indicators of proportion, the mortality rate and PYLL indicated that health status of a population in Inner Mongolia was at a better level. 展开更多

The objective of the study was to investigate the effect of tripterine on the Notch signaling pathway in renal tissue of IgA nephropathy rats.SD male rats were divided into the control group,IgA nephropathy model group,benazepril group,1 mg/kg/day tripterine intervention group,and 10 mg/kg/day tripterine intervention group according to the random number table method,with 10 rats in each group.The urinary sediment and 24-h urinary protein quantity were detected by conventional methods.The expressions of Notch1,Jagged1,Hes1,and Hey1 in renal tissue of rats were detected by real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction.IgA nephropathy model was successfully established.The hematuria and proteinuria in model group were higher than those of control group(P<0.05).The expressions of Notch1,Jagged1,Hes1,and hey1 in kidney tissue of IgA nephropathy rats were significantly increased(P<0.05).Compared with the model group,hematuria and proteinuria in the tripterine intervention group were alleviated.The expressions of Notch1,Jagged1,Hes1,and Hey1 in rat renal tissue were decreased(P<0.05).Moreover,the expressions of Notch1,Jagged1,Hes1,and Hey1 in renal tissue of rats in 10 mg/kg/day tripterine intervention group were decreased(P<0.05).Tripterine can decrease the levels of hematuria and proteinuria in IgA nephropathy rats.The expression of the Notch signaling pathway in IgA nephropathy rats is increased by the down-regulation of tripterine,suggesting that tripterine has a certain therapeutic effect on IgA nephropathy rat.Moreover,its role may be realized through this signal pathway so as to provide a new mentality for the diagnosis and treatment of IgA nephropathy. 展开更多

Co-expression network analysis of virulence genes exoS and exoU of pseudomonas aeruginosa in lower respiratory tract based on histological data expression profiles

Objective:To use the gene chip of pseudomonas aeruginosa as a research sample and to explore it at an omics level,aiming at elucidating the co-expression network characteristics of the virulence genes exoS and exoU of pseudomonas aeruginosa in the lower respiratory tract from the perspective of molecular biology and identifying its key regulatory genes.Methods:From March 2016 to May 2018,312 patients infected with pseudomonas aeruginosa in the lower respiratory tract who were admitted to Department of Respiratory Medicine of Baogang Hospital and given follow-up treatments in the hospital were selected as subjects by use of cluster sampling.Alveolar lavage fluid and sputum collected from those patients were used as biological specimens.The genes of pseudomonas aeruginosa were detected with the help of oligonucleotide probes to make a pre-processing of chip data.A total of 8 common antibiotics(ceftazidime,gentamicin,piperacillin,amikacin,ciprofloxacin,levofloxacin,doripenem and ticarcillin)against Gram-negative bacteria were selected to determine the drug resistance of biological specimens.MCODE algorithm was used to construct a co-expression network model of the drug-resistance genes focused on exoS/exoU.Results:The expression level of exoS/exoU in the drug-resistance group was significantly higher than that in the non-resistance group(p<0.05).The top 5 differentially expressed genes in the alveolar lavage fluid specimens from the drug-resistance group were RAC1,ITGB1,ITGB5,CRK and IGF1R in the order from high to low.In the sputum specimens,the top 5 differentially expressed genes were RAC1,CRK,IGF1R,ITGB1 and ITGB5.In the alveolar lavage fluid specimens,only RAC1 had a positive correlation with the expression of exoS and exoU(p<0.05).In the sputum specimens,RAC1,ITGB1,ITGB5,CRK and IGF1R were positively correlated with the expression of exoS and exoU(p<0.05).The genes included in the co-expression network contained exoS,exoU,RAC1,ITGB1,ITGB5,CRK,CAMK2D,RHOA,FLNA,IGF1R,TGFBR2 and FOS.Among them,RAC1 had a highest score in the aspect of regulatory ability(72.00)and the largest number of regulatory genes(6);followed by ITGB1,ITGB5 and CRK genes.Conclusions:The high expression of exoS and exoU in the sputum specimens suggests that pseudomonas aeruginosa has a higher probability to get resistant to antibiotics;RAC1,ITGB1,ITGB5 and CRK genes may be the key genes that can regulate the expression of exoS and exoU. 展开更多

BACKGROUND For the treatment of distal clavicle fractures,each treatment method has its own advantages and disadvantages,and there is no optimal surgical solution.CASE SUMMARY Based on this,we report 2 cases of distal clavicle fractures treated utilizing an anterior inferior plate with a single screw placed in the distal,in anticipation of providing a better surgical approach to distal clavicle fracture treatment.Two patients were admitted to the hospital after trauma with a diagnosis of distal clavicle fracture,and were admitted to the hospital for internal fixation of clavicle fracture by incision and reduction,with good postoperative functional recovery.CONCLUSION With solid postoperative fixation and satisfactory prognostic functional recovery,this technique has been shown to be simple,easy to perform and effective. 展开更多

Objective::Data comparing the outcomes of MiStent(Micell Technologies,Durham,North Carolina,USA)microcrystalline biodegradable polymer(BP)drug-eluting stent(DES)and those of another post-marketing BP-DES,TIVOLI(EssenTech,Beijing,China)are rare.This study sought to compare the angiographic efficacy and clinical outcomes of the microcrystalline BP sirolimus-eluting stent(SES)system MiStent and those of TIVOLI BP-SES.Methods::The DESSOLVE-C trial was a prospective,single-blinded,multicenter,randomized trial(NCT02448524),which randomly assigned patients with de novo coronary lesions to receive MiStent or TIVOLI BP-SES by a 1:1 ratio.The primary endpoint was a non-inferiority comparison of in-stent late lumen loss(LLL)by quantitative coronary angiography at 9 months.The secondary endpoint was device-related clinical cardiovascular composite events(target lesion failure(TLF),composite of cardiac death,target vessel myocardial infarction(MI),and clinically driven target lesion revascularization)and 1-year outcomes.Results::A total of 428 patients(216 patients in the MiStent group and 212 patients in the TIVOLI group)were enrolled and included in an intention-to-treat analysis.MiStent was not only non-inferior but superior to TIVOLI for in-stent LLL at 9 months((0.23±0.37)mm vs.(0.34±0.48)mm,P for non-inferiority<0.001,P for superiority=0.02).Although without significant difference,the rate of TLF in MiStent was quantitatively lower than that in TIVOLI(3.70%vs.6.60%;P=0.17).Conclusion::Compared with TIVOLI BP-SES,the MiStent system was superior in in-stent LLL at 9 months and had a comparable clinical benefit at 1 year in de novo coronary lesions. 展开更多

To the Editor:Sjogren's syndrome (SS)is a multisystem chronic autoimmune disease,and mainly affects the lacrimal and salivary glands,leading to ocular and oral dryness.SS is characterized by a large quantity of autoantibodies and involves multiple systems including the lymphatic system,blood,lungs,kidneys, liver,muscles,and joints.Late complications include interstitial pulmonary fibrosis,peripheral neuropathy,tracheobronchial sicca, blindness,arthralgia,oral candidiasis,and lymphoma.The main histopathological feature of SS is lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine glands,resulting in acinar cell death,probably through apoptosis.[1]The exact etiology and pathogenesis of SS are still not clear. 展开更多

Objective To investigate Mongolian medicinal plants called Digeda and the prescriptions in Inner Mongolia region and to establish a molecular method for authentication of Digeda Mongolian patent medicines (MPMs). Methods A field investigation was conducted on traditional uses of Digeda. After interviewed traditional healers in Mongolian, ethnopharmacological information of Digeda prescriptions was recorded in detail, including names, compositions, and traditional uses. And the total DNA from 10 MPMs has been amplified by three pairs of specific primers. Specific PCR products were further identified by sequence alignment with the known sequences already submitted in GenBank or own sequences. Results Fifteen Digeda plants and 29 Digeda prescriptions with their ethnopharmacological knowledge were collected. Ten MPM samples containing Lomatogonium rotatum, Viola philippica, and Corydalis bungeana were successfully evidenced by PCR with specific bands as raw materials. Conclusion Digeda should be further investigated in ethnopharmacology, which is a fundamental step toward developing efficacious natural drugs for various diseases. PCR amplification of specific allele is an easy and economical method, which can be used to identify highly processed MPMs and will assist in monitoring their qualities and legalities. 展开更多

Effective restoration of blood flow can significantly improve patients’ quality of life and reduce mortality. However, reperfusion injury cannot be ignored. Flavonoids possess well-established antioxidant properties;They also have other benefits that may be relevant for ameliorating myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury(MIRI). In this review,we focus on flavonoids with cardiovascular-protection function and emphasize their pharmacological effects. The main mechanisms of flavonoid pharmacological activities against MIRI involve the following aspects: a) antioxidant, b) anti-inflammatory, c) anti-platelet aggregation, d) anti-apoptosis, and e)myocardial-function regulation activities.
