This paper described the process of generating the optimal parametric hull shape with a fully parametric modeling method for three containerships of diferent sizes.The newly created parametric ship hull was applied to...This paper described the process of generating the optimal parametric hull shape with a fully parametric modeling method for three containerships of diferent sizes.The newly created parametric ship hull was applied to another ship with a similar shape,which greatly saved time cost.A process of selecting design variables was developed,and during this process,the infuence of these variables on calm water resistance was analyzed.After we obtained the optimal hulls,the wave added resistance and motions of original hulls and optimal hulls in regular head waves were analyzed and compared with experi-mental results.Computations of the fow around the hulls were obtained from a validated nonlinear potential fow boundary element method.Using the multi-objective optimization algorithm,surrogate-based global optimization(SBGO)reduced the computational efort.Compared with the original hull,wave resistance of the optimal hulls was signifcantly reduced for the two larger ships at Froude numbers corresponding to their design speeds.Optimizing the hull of the containerships slightly reduced their wave added resistance and total resistance in regular head waves,while optimization of their hulls hardly afected wave-induced motions.展开更多

To date, no satisfactory treatment option has been established. Because mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) have been identified as a potential treatment modality, we aimed to evaluate stem cell distribution following intravenous and intraglandular injections using a surgical model of salivary gland damage and to analyse the effects of MSC injections on the recruitment of immune cells. The submandibular gland ducts of rats were surgically ligated. Syngeneic adult MSCs were isolated, immortalised by simian virus 40(SV40) large T antigen and characterized by flow cytometry. MSCs were injected intravenously and intraglandularly. After 1, 3 and 7 days, the organs of interest were analysed for stem cell recruitment. Inflammation was analysed by immunohistochemical staining. We were able to demonstrate that, after intravenous injection, MSCs were recruited to normal and damaged submandibular glands on days 1, 3 and 7. Unexpectedly, stem cells were recruited to ligated and non-ligated glands in a comparable manner. After intraglandular injection of MSCs into ligated glands, the presence of MSCs, leucocytes and macrophages was enhanced, compared to intravenous injection of stem cells. Our data suggest that injected MSCs were retained within the inflamed glands, could become activated and subsequently recruited leucocytes to the sites of tissue damage.展开更多

Bivariate map visualizations use different encodings to visualize two variables but comparison across multiple encodings is challenging.Compared to a univariate visualization,it is significantly harder to read regiona...Bivariate map visualizations use different encodings to visualize two variables but comparison across multiple encodings is challenging.Compared to a univariate visualization,it is significantly harder to read regional differences and spot geographical outliers.Especially targeting inexperienced users of visualizations,we advocate the use of natural language text for augmenting map visualizations and understanding the relationship between two geo-statistical variables.We propose an approach that selects interesting findings from data analysis,generates a respective text and visualization,and integrates both into a single document.The generated reports interactively link the visualization with the textual narrative.Users can get additional explanations and have the ability to compare different regions.The text generation process is flexible and adapts to various geographical and contextual settings based on small sets of parameters.We showcase this flexibility through a number of application examples.展开更多
Within the past two decades,chromophores,which show aggregation-induced emission(AIE),have gained considerable attention with respect to the development of luminescent liquid crystals.In contrast to common luminogens,...Within the past two decades,chromophores,which show aggregation-induced emission(AIE),have gained considerable attention with respect to the development of luminescent liquid crystals.In contrast to common luminogens,AIE emitters do not suffer from aggregation-caused quenching of the emission in the solid state.In this review,we summarize the recent development in the field of AIE-active liquid crystals and show first model devices,which already prove the application potential of these materials.Currently,three different approaches are followed,to get access to luminescent liquid crystals––namely the synthetic approach yielding luminescent mesogens,the doping approach,and the supramolecular approach,which will be described and discussed in detail in this review.展开更多
