Recycling graphite anode from spent lithium-ion batteries(SLIBs)is regarded as a crucial approach to promoting sustainable energy storage industry.However,the recycled graphite(RG)generally presents degraded structure and performance.Herein,the residual fluoride self-activated effect is proposed for the upgraded utilization of RG.Simple and low-energy water immersion treatment not only widens the interlayer spacing,but also retains appropriate fluoride on the surface of RG.Theoretical analysis and experiments demonstrate that the residual fluoride can optimize Li~+migration and deposition kinetics,resulting in better Li~+intercalation/deintercalation in the interlayer and more stable Li metal plating/stripping on the surface of RG,As a result,the designed LFP||RG full cells achieve ultrahigh reversibility(~100%Coulombic efficiency),high capacity retention(67%after 200 cycles,0.85 N/P ratio),and commendable adaptability(stable cycling without short-circuiting,0.15 N/P ratio).The energy density is improved from 334 Wh kg^(-1)of 1.1 N/P ratio to 367 Wh kg^(-1)of 0.85 N/P ratio(total mass based on cathode and anode).The exploration of RG by residual fluoride self-activated effect achieves upgraded utilization beyond fresh commercial graphite and highlights a new strategy for efficient reuse of SLIBs. 展开更多

The hepatorenal syndrome(HRS)is one major extrahepatic complication of endstage liver diseases.While circulatory dysregulation is considered as primary etiology for HRS,cirrhosis-related(systemic)inflammation and/or cardial dysfunction may also play a key pathogenic role in HRS development.Exclusion of other causes of acute kidney injury(AKI)is required for diagnosis of HRS-AKI by the definition of the International Club of Ascites.However,the pathophysiology of HRS is not understood completely and there are still limited therapeutic options.Reversibility of renal dysfunction after liver transplantation indicates that HRS-AKI is a functional disorder caused by altered cellular function.The interplay between systemic inflammation and the onset of kidneyrelated hypometabolism may have a key role and needs to be studied in depth.This minireview challenges simplified views of the HRS in the context of diagnostics and therapy stressing the need for further evidence to advance the knowledge on this syndrome. 展开更多

Numerical simulation tools based on potential-flow theory and/or Morison’s equation are widely used for predicting the hydrodynamic responses of floating offshore wind platforms.In general,these simplified approaches are used for the analysis under operational conditions,albeit with a carefully selected approach to account for viscous effects.Nevertheless,due to the limit hydrodynamic modelling to linear and weakly nonlinear models,these approaches severely underpredict the low-frequency nonlinear wave loads and dynamic responses of a semisubmersible.They may not capture important nonlinearities in severe sea states.For the prediction of wave-induced motions and loads on a semisubmersible,this work systematically compares a fully nonlinear viscous-flow solver and a hybrid model combining the potential-flow theory with Morison-drag loads in steep waves.Results show that when nonlinear phenomena are not dominant,the results obtained by the hybrid model and the high-fidelity method show reasonable agreement,while larger discrepancies occur for highly nonlinear regular waves.Specifically,regular waves with various steepness over different frequencies are focused in the present study,which supplements the understanding in applicability of these two groups of method. 展开更多

Back interface passivation for ultrathin Cu(In,Ga)Se_(2) solar cells with Schottky back contact: A trade-off of electrical effects

Back interface passivation reduces the back recombination of photogenerated electrons, whereas aggravates the blocking of hole transport towards back contact, which complicate the back interface engineering for ultrathin CIGSe solar cells with a Schottky back contact. In this work, theoretical explorations were conducted to study how the two contradictory electrical effects impact cell performance. For ultrathin CIGSe solar cells with a pronounced Schottky potential barrier(E_(h)> 0.2 eV), back interface passivation produces diverse performance evolution trends, which are highly dependent on cell structures and properties. Since a back Ga grading can screen the effect of reduced recombination of photogenerated electrons from back interface passivation, the hole blocking effect predominates and back interface passivation is not desirable. However, when the back Schottky diode merges with the main pn junction due to a reduced absorber thickness,the back potential barrier and the hole blocking effect is much reduced on this occasion. Consequently, cells exhibit the same efficiency evolution trend as ones with an Ohmic contact, where back interface passivation is always advantageous.The discoveries imply the complexity of back interface passivation and provide guidance to manipulate back interface for ultrathin CIGSe solar on TCOs with a pronounced Schottky back contact. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Laparoscopic and endoscopic cooperative surgery is a safe,organ-sparing surgery that achieves full-thickness resection with adequate margins.Recent studies have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of these procedures.However,these techniques are limited by the exposure of the tumor and mucosa to the peritoneal cavity,which could lead to viable cancer cell seeding and the spillage of gastric juice or enteric liquids into the peritoneal cavity.Non-exposed endoscopic wallinversion surgery(NEWS)is highly accurate in determining the resection margins to prevent intraperitoneal contamination because the tumor is inverted into the visceral lumen instead of the peritoneal cavity.Accurate intraoperative assessment of the nodal status could allow stratification of the extent of resection.One-step nucleic acid amplification(OSNA)can provide a rapid method of evaluating nodal tissue,whilst nearinfrared laparoscopy together with indocyanine green can identify relevant nodal tissue intraoperatively.AIM To determine the safety and feasibility of NEWS in early gastric and colon cancers and of adding rapid intraoperative lymph node(LN)assessment with OSNA.METHODS The patient-based experiential portion of our investigations was conducted at the General and Oncological Surgery Unit of the St.Giuseppe Moscati Hospital(Avellino,Italy).Patients with early-stage gastric or colon cancer(diagnosed via endoscopy,endoscopic ultrasound,and computed tomography)were included.All lesions were treated by NEWS procedure with intraoperative OSNA assay between January 2022 and October 2022.LNs were examined intraoperatively with OSNA and postoperatively with conventional histology.We analyzed patient demographics,lesion features,histopathological diagnoses,R0 resection(negative margins)status,adverse events,and follow-up results.Data were collected prospectively and analyzed retrospectively.RESULTS A total of 10 patients(5 males and 5 females)with an average age of 70.4±4.5 years(range:62-78 years)were enrolled in this study.Five patients were diagnosed with gastric cancer.The remaining 5 patients were diagnosed with early-stage colon cancer.The mean tumor diameter was 23.8±11.6 mm(range:15-36 mm).The NEWS procedure was successful in all cases.The mean procedure time was 111.5±10.7 min(range:80-145 min).The OSNA assay revealed no LN metastases in any patients.Histologically complete resection(R0)was achieved in 9 patients(90.0%).There was no recurrence during the follow-up period.CONCLUSION NEWS combined with sentinel LN biopsy and OSNA assay is an effective and safe technique for the removal of selected early gastric and colon cancers in which it is not possible to adopt conventional endoscopic resection techniques.This procedure allows clinicians to acquire additional information on the LN status intraoperatively. 展开更多

Oxygen is essential to the human life and life of all aerobic organisms. The complete oxidation of nutrients for the biological energy supply is one of the most important prerequisites for the formation of higher life forms. However, cells that benefit from oxidative respiration also suffer from reactive oxygen species because they adapted to oxygen as an energy source. Healthy cells balance the formation and elimination of reactive oxygen species thereby creating and keeping reactive oxygen species-homeostasis. When the concentration of free radicals exceeds a critical level and homeostasis is disturbed, oxidative stress occurs leading to damage of multiple cellular molecules and compartments. Therefore, oxidative stress plays an important role in the physiology and pathology of various diseases. Often, the antioxidant protection system becomes pathologically unbalanced in the genesis of several diseases, leading to functional losses of the organism, as in the case of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or cells develop metabolic mechanisms to use this system as protection against external influences, such as in the case of glioblastoma cells. Either way, understanding the underlying deregulated mechanisms of the oxidative protection system would allow the development of novel treatment strategies for various diseases. Thus, regardless of the direction in which the reactive oxygen species-homeostasis disequilibrate, the focus should be on the oxidative protection system. 展开更多

The rapidly increasing demand for energy in China leads to the construction of new power plants all over the country. Coal, as the main fuel resource of those power plants, results in increasing problems with the disposal of solid residues from combustion and off gas cleaning. This investigation describes chances for the utilization of fly ash from coal-fired power plants in China. After briefly comparing the situation in China and Germany, the status of aluminum recycling from fly ash and the ad- vantages for using fly ash in concrete products are introduced. Chemical and physical analyses of Chinese fly ash samples, e.g., X-ray diffraction (XRD), ICP (Inductive Coupled Plasma) and particle size analysis, water requirement, etc. are presented. Rea- sonable amounts of aluminum were detected in the samples under investigation, but for recovery only sophisticated procedures are available up to now. Therefore, simpler techniques are suggested for the first steps in the utilization of Chinese fly ash. 展开更多

AIM:To develop models to predict hepatitis B e antigen(HBe Ag)seroconversion in response to interferon(IFN)-αtreatment in chronic hepatitis B patients.METHODS:We enrolled 147 treatment-nave HBe Agpositive chronic hepatitis B patients in China and analyzed variables after initiating IFN-α1b treatment.Patients were tested for serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT),hepatitis B virus-DNA,hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag),antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen,HBe Ag,antibody to hepatitis B e antigen(anti-HBe),and antibody to hepatitis B core antigen(anti-HBc)at baseline and 12 wk,24 wk,and 52 wk after initiating treatment.We performed univariate analysis to identify response predictors among the variables.Multivariate models to predict treatment response were constructed at baseline,12 wk,and 24 wk.RESULTS:At baseline,the 3 factors correlating most with HBe Ag seroconversion were serum ALT level>4×the upper limit of normal(ULN),HBe Ag≤500 S/CO,and anti-HBc>11.4 S/CO.At 12 wk,the 3 factors most associated with HBe Ag seroconversion were HBe Ag level≤250 S/CO,decline in HBe Ag>1 log10 S/CO,and anti-HBc>11.8 S/CO.At 24 wk,the 3 factors most associated with HBe Ag seroconversion were HBe Ag level≤5 S/CO,anti-HBc>11.4 S/CO,and decline in HBe Ag>2 log10 S/CO.Each variable was assigned a score of1,a score of 0 was given if patients did not have any of the 3 variables.The 3 factors most strongly correlating with HBe Ag seroconversion at each time point were used to build models to predict the outcome after IFN-αtreatment.When the score was 3,the response rates at the 3 time points were 57.7%,83.3%,and 84.0%,respectively.When the score was 0,the response rates were 2.9%,0.0%,and 2.1%,respectively.CONCLUSION:Models with good negative and positive predictive values were developed to calculate the probability of response to IFN-αtherapy. 展开更多

The gastrointestinal barrier is constantly exposed to numerous environmental substrates that are foreign and potentially harmful. These xenobiotics can cause shifts in the intestinal microbiota composition, affect mucosal immune responses, disturb tissue integrity and impair regeneration. The multidrug transporter ABCB1/MDR1 p-glycoprotein (p-gp) plays a key role at the front line of host defence by efficiently protecting the gastrointestinal barrier from xenobiotic accumulation. This Editorial discusses how altered expression and function of ABCB1/MDR1 p-gp may contribute to the development and persistence of chronic intestinal inflammation in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Recent evidence implies multiple interactions between intestinal microbiota, innate immunity and xenobiotic metabolism via p-gp. While decreased efflux activity may promote disease susceptibility and drug toxicity, increased efflux activity may confer resistance to therapeutic drugs in IBD. Mice deficient in MDR1 A develop spontaneously chronic colitis, providing a highly valuable murine IBD model for the study of intestinal epithelial barrier function, immunoregulation, infectious co-triggers and novel therapeutic approaches. Possible associations of human ABCB1 gene polymorphisms with IBD susceptibility have been evaluated, but results are inconsistent. Future studies must focus on further elucidation of the pathophysiological relevance and immunological functions of p-gp and how its ambiguous effects could be therapeutically targeted in IBD. 展开更多

One of the main problems during the welding of ferritic stainless steels is severe grain growth within the heat-affected zone (HAZ) In the present study, the microstmctural characteristics of tungsten inert gas (TIG) welded AISI409 ferritic stainless steel were investigated by electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), and the effects of welding parameters on the grain size, local misorientation, and low-angle grain boundaries were studied. A 3-D finite element model (FEM) was developed to predict the effects of welding parameters on the holding time of the HAZ above the critical temperature of grain growth. It is found that the base metal is not fully recrystallized. During the welding, complete recrystallization is followed by severe grain growth. A decrease in the number of low-angle grain boundaries is observed within the HAZ. FEM results show that the final state of residual sWains is caused by competition between welding plastic strains and their release by recrystallization. Still, the decisive factor for grain growth is heat input. 展开更多

AIM To compare myocardial viability assessment accuracy of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging(CMR)compared to[^(18)F]-fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG)-positron emission tomography(PET)depending on left ventricular(LV)function.METHODS One-hundred-five patients with known obstructive coronary artery disease(CAD)and anticipated coronary revascularization were included in the study and examined by CMR on a 1.5T scanner.The CMR protocol consisted of cine-sequences for function analysis and late gadolinium enhancement(LGE)imaging for viability assessment in 8 mm long and contiguous short axis slices.All patients underwent PET using[^(18)F]-FDG.Myocardial scars were rated in both CMR and PET on a segmental basis by a 4-point-scale:Score 1=no LGE,normal FDG-uptake;score 2=LGE enhancement<50% of wall thickness,reduced FDG-uptake(≥50% of maximum);score 3=LGE≥50% ,reduced FDG-uptake(<50% of maximum);score 4=transmural LGE,no FDG-uptake.Segments with score 1 and 2 were categorized"viable",scores 3 and 4 were categorized as"non-viable".Patients were divided into three groups based on LV function as determined by CMR:Ejection fraction(EF),<30% :n=45;EF:30% -50% :n=44;EF>50% :n=16).On a segmental basis,the accuracy of CMR in detecting myocardial scar was compared to PET in the total collective and in the three different patient groups.RESULTS CMR and PET data of all 105 patients were sufficient for evaluation and 5508 segments were compared in total.In all patients,CMR detected significantly more scars(score 2-4)than PET:45% vs 40% of all segments(P<0.0001).In the different LV function groups,CMR found more scar segments than PET in subjects with EF<30% (55% vs 46% ;P<0.0001)and EF 30% -50% (44% vs 40% ;P<0.005).However,CMR revealed less scars than PET in patients with EF>50% (15% vs 23% ;P<0.0001).In terms of functional improvement estimation,i.e.,expected improvement after revascularization,CMR identified"viable"segments(score 1 and 2)in 72% of segments across all groups,PET in 80% (P<0.0001).Also in all LV function subgroups,CMR judged less segments viable than PET:EF<30% ,66% vs 75% ;EF=30% -50% ,72% vs 80% ;EF>50% ,91% vs 94% .CONCLUSION CMR and PET reveal different diagnostic accuracy in myocardial viability assessment depending on LV function state.CMR,in general,is less optimistic in functional recovery prediction. 展开更多
