The work with corn was conducted in a greenhouse, using velvet bean (Mucuna aterrima) and sunn hemp (Crotalaria juncea) as green manure with 15N labeling of either shoots or roots, in two soils with contrasting textural classes. The mineralization of N from legume plants incorporated into the two soils was investigated too. This work included two green manures: velvet bean and sunn hemp, and the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) residues. Nitrogen from the velvet bean accounted for a greater proportion of the soil inorganic N;shoots were responsible for most of N accumulated. Common bean residues caused immobilization of inorganic N. The leguminous species added were intensively and promptly mineralized, preserving the soil native nitrogen. One hundred days after emergence of the corn, velvet bean provided higher accumulation of nitrogen in the soil, higher absorption by corn plants and accumulation in the aerial part. The green manure decomposition was more intense in the medium textured soil. In this soil, highest nitrogen losses were also observed. The sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) was cultivated for five years in the field and was harvested three times;15N recovery was evaluated in the first two harvests. The combination of inorganic fertilizer and green manure resulted in higher sugarcane yields than either N source applied separately;however, in the second cutting the yields were higher where sunn hemp was used than in plots with ammonium sulfate. The recovery of N by the first two consecutive harvests accounted for 19% to 21% of the N applied as sunn hemp and 46% to 49% of the N applied as ammonium sulfate. Very little inorganic N was present in the 0-40 cm soil layer with both N sources.展开更多

文摘The physical properties of the rock units associated with the Rio Bonito Formation are presented in this study with the focus on modelling reservoir quality based on petrophysics-derived parameters to evaluate CO_(2)storage potentials. It involves the modelling of the reservoir depths, thicknesses, flow zone indicators(FZI),and effective permeability(Keff)and presenting the CO_(2)storage efficiency factors peculiar to the rock units of the study location.Research results presented by this study for the stated objectives are not quite common in the region.Keff values range from 200 mD to higher than 2000 mD,and FZI values are generally above 1.0 mm and up to 13.0 mm within the portions covered by the drilled wells. The sandstone units recorded are up to 20 m thick in some cases. The Keff and FZI models indicate the sandstone reservoirs as permeable units to support the injection and circulation of CO_(2)within the potential reservoir units of the Rio Bonio Formation across São Paulo State.Apart from some points in the southeastern part of the study location, where the Rio Bonito are delineated at depths less than 800 m(minimum CO_(2)storage depth based on best practices),other portions are deeper, ranging from 950 m to 3500 m.Thin-bedded layers will affect the integrity of the rocks as CO_(2)storage tanks or reservoir seals/traps/overburden within the region.Sandstone bed thicknesses are up to 20 m in some cases. However, hybrid CO_(2)reservoir units are feasible, especially in portions where thin siltstone layers are sandwiched between sandstone units to provide considerable thicknesses based on CO_(2)storage standards. The current study shows that useable areas considering reservoir thickness, depth, and other physical qualities will significantly control the CO_(2)storage efficiency of the study location.Further studies featuring a detailed geophysical exploration of the site to confirm the availability and saturations of preexisting fluid(hydrocarbon and water)are encouraged to boost CO_(2)storage in the region. The related research-based results,as mentioned above, may be combined with the results of this research to determine the area's potentials for CO_(2)storage or hydrocarbon production with CO_(2)storage options.
文摘The collection and proper disposal of MSW(Municipal Solid Waste)is one of the biggest challenges faced by Brazilian public managers.Dry recyclable waste represents about 33.6%of the gravimetric composition of MSW,with a tendency to increase in the next few years, due to the increasing consumption of processed products, with short life cycles and excess packaging. The inadequate management of these residues results in a series of social, environmental and economic problems. In recent years, there has been a great advance in Brazilian laws, assigning responsibilities and regulating waste management in the country, optimizing the use of infrastructure and human and financial resources.Scarce resources and insufficient infrastructure demand actions based on a lot of planning. One of the main limiting factors for the planning and development of public policies for the sector is the lack of reliable data and information on the generation and management of waste, that allow the creation of future scenarios and the definition of adequate strategies for minimization, valorization of waste and final disposal of waste that no longer can be processed. Thus, this work sought to analyze the current situation of selective waste collection and recycling cooperatives in 211 municipalities in the State of São Paulo, evaluating the issues and opportunities for the applicability of Law n.12,305/2010,Brazilian PNRS(in Portuguese)(National Policy of Solid Waste)in the management of this waste in small, medium and large cities.A bibliographic research was carried out on the panorama of solid waste management in Brazil and in the State of São Paulo,as well as a contextualization on selective waste collection and recycling cooperatives.Following that, data from 211 municipalities taking part in the survey Solid Waste Management—Municipalities of the State of São Paulo were analyzed, focusing on answers that correlated with the topics covered in this research. For this work, questions were used in order to obtain a basic overview of solid waste management in the municipalities, identifying the characteristics of selective waste collection and recycling cooperatives in the municipalities and to verify the similarity, benefits and difficulties of selective waste collection and waste cooperatives in the municipalities studied. After tabulating and analyzing the data,a matrix was prepared to compare the results obtained in relation to selective waste collection and recycling cooperatives and the guidelines of the PNRS(National Solid Waste Policy)in urban environmental management, which allowed the conclusion that all municipalities participating in the research have a good understanding of solid waste management practices,as well as seek to comply with the guidelines of the PNRS.However, the results of this matrix indicated that there are important points that need to be considered in the planning of actions for a better management of recyclable waste, such as the implementation of inter-municipal consortiums in the management of solid waste, investment in environmental education, stimulation to create recycling cooperatives and adoption of social inclusion regulations for informal waste collectors.

文摘Mg-Zn-Zr(ZK)alloys exhibit notably high mechanical strength amongst all magnesium alloy grades. However, due to the formation of low melting point Mg_3Zn_7-precipitates,these alloys are susceptible to hot cracking, thus compromising their metallurgical processing. The addition of rare earths to ZK alloys is an alternative to form higher melting point intermetallic compounds, speed up dynamic recrystallization, refine grain size, enhance corrosion resistance and extend the service temperature due to improved creep resistance. This work deals with the effect of Ce-base mischmetal addition on the hot rolling behaviour of as-cast ZK60 alloy. The microstructure investigation conducted using electron microscopy and X-Ray diffraction shows that precipitation of Mg_(7)Zn_(3) intermetallics occur during hot rolling, whereas no further precipitation is observed for the ZK60-Mm alloys. The fragmentation of the intermetallic compounds occur during hot rolling and finer particles of Mg_(7)Zn_(3) are observed for the ZK60,whereas Mg_(7)Zn_(3) and Mg Zn_(2) Ce intermetallics are formed in the alloy modified with mischmetal addition.A higher fraction of dynamically recrystallized grains is observed for the ZK60-Mm in comparison to the ZK60.Continuous recrystallization takes place in ZK60 with the formation of sub-grains near to the intermetallics and the addition of mischmetal promotes the occurrence of discontinuous recrystallization with the nucleation of new grains close to the precipitates. The mechanical strength and,in particular, the ductility of the hot-rolled alloys are notably improved when compared to the same alloys in the as-cast condition. The mechanical strength is,however, higher for the ZK60 alloy.Less solid solution strengthening, softer Mg Zn_(2) Ce intermetallics and more extensive recrystallization contribute to reduce the mechanical strength of ZK60-Mm.Failure in both alloys are initiated at coarse intermetallics and propagate through intermetallic-rich regions.

文摘This study assessed the adsorption process and the reaction kinetics involved in the selective recovery of vanadium from an acid solution containing iron as an impurity.Four commercial resins were studied:Lewatit^(®)MonoPlus TP 209 XL,Lewatit^(®) TP 207,Dowex^(TM)M4195(chelating resin)and Lewatit^(®) MonoPlus S 200 H(strong cationic exchange resin). To investigate the effect of time on the adsorption process, batch experiments were carried out using the following initial conditions:pH 2.0,298 K,and a proportion of 1 g of resin to 50 mL of solution. The variation of pH over time was analyzed.Chelating resin released less H+ions as the adsorption occurred, resulting in a lower drop of pH when compared to S 200 H resin.Ion adsorption by the resins was also evaluated through FT-IR and SEM−EDS before and after the experiments.Among the evaluated kinetic models(pseudo-first order,pseudo-second order,Elovich and intraparticle diffusion models),the pseudo-second order model best fits the experimental data of the adsorption of vanadium and iron by all of the four resins.M4195 resin showed the highest recovery of vanadium and the lowest adsorption of iron.Kinetic data, which are fundamental to industrial processes applications, are provided.

文摘Oil spills and oil/water wastewater are among the great concerns regarding oil pollution.Existing technologies face many limitations and in some cases are responsible for causing secondary pollution, therefore there is as seek for environmental friendly solutions.Biomass, from which celluloses are highlighted, are being employed for oil/water separation or oil absorbents membranes.Usually, these membranes are obtained by freeze drying of CNF(cellulose nano-fibrils)suspensions followed by chemical modification for hydrophobization, which involves expensive process as chemical vapor deposition and expensive reactants as sylanes, turning these processes hardly scalable. Here,we produced a natural porous structure paper from eucalyptus pulp fibers modified by a dipping and heating process in a blocked diisocyanate solution. After the surface treatment, contact angle with water reached 144°and water absorption reduced seven times, keeping the good oil absorbance. The chemical modification process is simple to be performed and use a very low quantity of reactant estimated to be less than 0.1 wt%based on cellulose. The good mechanical properties of the material allows its use in non usual conditions which can be of great importance depending on the environmental conditions.

文摘Three assays were developed from April 3, 1995 to October 10, 2005. Very little inorganic N was present in the 0-40 cm soil layer with both N sources.

文摘Soils(Leptosols or Epileptic Regosols)with lithic contact at a depth of 50 cm occupy almost 20%of the Brazilian semi-arid region. These lithic soils are susceptible to erosion due to faster saturation of water-holding capacity during rainfall, which accelerates the beginning of runoff. However, erosion traits of lithic soils in the semi-arid region of Brazil are less studied. The aim of this study was to characterize the soil and landscape attributes in areas with Neossolos Litólicos(Entisols)in the Caatinga biome to identify region of high susceptibility to erosion. Results showed that the soils were characterized by a sandy texture, soil structure with poor development and low content of organic carbon. These attributes increase susceptibility to erosion and reduce water storage capacity, especially in the states of Cearáand Sergipe. In these states, the content of rock fragments in the soil reaches 790 g/kg.High contents of silt and fine sand, high silt/clay ratio, predominance of Leptosols and strong rainfall erosivity were observed in Piauíand northwestern Ceará.A very high degree of water erosion was observed in the states of Pernambuco and Paraíba.Despite the low degree of erosion observed in the state of Bahia,it is highly susceptible to erosion due to the predominance of very shallow soils, rugged relief and high values of rainfall erosivity.Lower vulnerability was observed in the state of Alagoas because of its more smoothed relief, greater effective soil depth, thicker A horizon of soil and lower rainfall erosivity. In general, the characteristics that intensify the susceptibility to erosion in the Caatinga biome are those soil structures with poor development or without aggregation, low contents of organic carbon, high contents of silt and fine sand, high values of silt/clay ratio and rugged relief in some regions. This study collected information contributing to a better characterization of soils with lithic contact in the semi-arid region of Brazil. In addition, regions with a higher susceptibility to erosion were identified, revealing insights that could help develop strategies for environmental risk mitigation.

文摘Background:Impaired fertility in cattle limits the efficiency of livestock production systems.Unraveling the genetic architecture of fertility traits would facilitate their improvement by selection. In this study,we characterized SNP chip haplotypes at QTL blocks then used whole-genome sequencing to fine map genomic regions associated with reproduction in a population of Nellore(Bos indicus)heifers. Methods:The dataset comprised of 1337 heifers genotyped using a GeneSeek®Genomic Profiler panel(74677 SNPs),representing the daughters from 78 sires. After performing marker quality control,64800 SNPs were retained.Haplotypes carried by each sire at six previously identified QTL on BTAs 5,14 and 18 for heifer pregnancy and BTAs 8,11 and 22 for antral follicle count were constructed using findhap software. The significance of the contrasts between the effects of every two paternally-inherited haplotype alleles were used to identify sires that were heterozygous at each QTL.Whole-genome sequencing data localized to the haplotypes from six sires and 20 other ancestors were used to identify sequence variants that were concordant with the haplotype contrasts.Enrichment analyses were applied to these variants using KEGG and MeSH libraries. Results:A total of six(BTA 5),six(BTA 14)and five(BTA 18)sires were heterozygous for heifer pregnancy QTL whereas six(BTA 8),fourteen(BTA 11),and five(BTA 22)sires were heterozygous for number of antral follicles’QTL.Due to inadequate representation of many haplotype alleles in the sequenced animals, fine mapping analysis could only be reliably performed for the QTL on BTA 5 and 14,which had 641 and 3733 concordant candidate sequence variants, respectively. The KEGG“Circadian rhythm”and“Neurotrophin signaling pathway”were significantly associated with the genes in the QTL on BTA 5 whereas 32 MeSH terms were associated with the QTL on BTA 14.Among the concordant sequence variants,0.2%and 0.3%were classified as missense variants for BTAs 5 and 14,respectively,highlighting the genes MTERF2,RTMB,ENSBTAG00000037306(miRNA),ENSBTAG00000040351,PRKDC,and RGS20.The potential causal mutations found in the present study were associated with biological processes such as oocyte maturation, embryo development, placenta development and response to reproductive hormones. Conclusions:The identification of heterozygous sires by positionally phasing SNP chip data and contrasting haplotype effects for previously detected QTL can be used for fine mapping to identify potential causal mutations and candidate genes.Genomic variants on genes MTERF2,RTBC,miRNA ENSBTAG00000037306,ENSBTAG00000040351,PRKDC,and RGS20,which are known to have influence on reproductive biological processes, were detected.
文摘Lignocellulose conversion into cellulosic ethanol and coproducts starts with a pretreatment step. Most current industrial plants of cellulosic ethanol use thermochemical pretreatments under hydrothermal conditions, with or without addition of acid catalyst.Such pretreatments modify biomass chemistry and morphology, particularly at the nanoscale. In this work,we use X-ray diffraction, dynamic vapor sorption and calorimetric thermoporometry to investigate the biomass nanostructural changes promoted by hydrothermal conditions. We compare and differentiate the rind and pith fractions of sugarcane stalks in order to contribute to the understanding of rind-pith contrasting recalcitrance. Moreover, for both cane fractions our results point consistently to cellulose co-crystallization,lignin aggregation, and opening of nanoscale pores as the main nanostructural phenomena occurring during hydrothermal treatments.

文摘The microstructure and mechanical properties of butt-joints produced by linear friction stir welding of similar plates of as-cast ZK60 and modified ZK60 with 1.5 wt.%RE(ZK60-1.5 RE)are investigated. The thermomechanical affected zone is investigated in both advancing and retrieving sides, and the microstructure is compared to the base metal and the stirred zone.Electron backscattered diffraction measurements provide the average microstructural features of the transformed microstructure. The mechanical properties are assessed using hardness, tensile testing, and surface residual stress measured using X-ray diffraction.Higher torque and heat input are obtained for the ZK60-1.5 RE compared to the ZK60.The thermomechanical affected zone is notably larger for the ZK60 compared to the ZK60-1.5 RE.A gradient microstructure is formed in thermomechanical affected zones where deformed grains are progressively more recrystallised towards the stirred zone. There is no visible interface between the thermomechanical affected zone and the stirred zone.A fine and partially recrystallised microstructure is formed in the stirred zone. The retrieving side of the ZK60-1.5 RE has a slightly more refined microstructure compared to the other investigated zones.Anisotropy measured with increment in the maximum intensity of the(0001)increases towards to stirred zone. The formed microstructure is correlated with the role of twinning, recovery, static, and dynamic recrystallisation that can occur during friction stir welding.Twinning and grains with large misorientation spread are more pronounced in the thermomechanical affected zone and regions towards the base metal.Sharp low angle grain boundaries are observed towards the stirred zone. From refined recrystallised grains decorating the grain in the thermomechanical affected zone,a mosaic-like of low and high angle grain boundaries are observed in the stirred zone. The joints have comparable surface residual stresses. The friction stir welding improved the ductility and strength of the as-cast ZK60-1.5 RE alloy since the tensile samples fractured in the BM.
文摘Socioeconomic and environmental losses caused by water erosion have highlighted the importance of quantifying and understanding the dynamics of soil redistribution in the landscape to develop effective soil management practices.Several methods are applied to estimate erosion/deposition rates and identify sources of sediments, among them, the one that uses rare earth elements(REE)as a tracer stands out. However,an alternative not yet explored that can benefit the accuracy of the estimates provided by the method is using a tracer containing a chemical signature composed of more than one REE.The present study aimed to evaluate the performance of a new water erosion tracer based on montmoril-lonite labeled with rare earth elements(La40-MMT).The innovative aspects of this La40-MMT tracer include its highly stable multi-chemical signature(Nd^(3+),La^(3+),and Pr^(3+)),which enhances tracer detection in the environment, and its low production cost due to the use of an industrial residue in the synthesis process. The tracer was evaluated for a typical soil of the Cerrado biome, using a natural rainfall field-scale plot-NRFP(5 m × 20 m)and a physical predictive erosion model(WEPP).The results showed that the La40-MMT tracer could be used to estimate erosion/deposition rates, with agreement between the values observed with the tracer and the WEPP model. Thus, this study confirmed the great potential of La40-MMT as a tool to identify patterns of soil redistribution at the field scale and aid in the validation of erosion models.

文摘Rudimentary food fermentation can be defined as a spontaneous process of conversion of food components through enzy-matic action.A great variety of fermented foods are produced using spontaneous approaches;however, cocoa and coffee represent the most important agricultural commodities on international markets. As a manner to increase the efficiency of these processes, starter cultures have been developed and applied under field conditions. The selection process begins with the recovery of microbial strains from spontaneous fermentation through phenotypic and metabolic traits.Next,mutation-based breeding is used to develop and improve well-adapted starter cultures. With advances in synthetic biology, especially in the last decade, the development of robust cellular fabrications with high fermentative capacity has become easier-largely due to the development of genomic approaches, such as next-generation sequencing techniques,CRISPR-Cas system and bioinformatics tools. This review brings prospects on the use of synthetic biology to design new robust strains for use in cocoa and coffee fermentations, but which can be extended to other rudimentary foods. In addition, metabolic traits and target genes(e.g.,UvrA,RecA,GPD1,and GPP2)are proposed as a starting point for the improvement of cocoa and coffee starters. Finally, the regulatory and safety requirements for these food crops are addressed. This review aims to stimulate research on the process of fermentation and the associated synthetic biology tools to produce fermented food efficiently and sustainably.

文摘Brazilian biomes are home to a significant portion of the world’s biodiversity, with a total of 14%of existing species and still concentrate 20%of the world’s water resources. However, changes in biomes have a direct impact on rainfall patterns and water recycling.Based on this, the objective was to evaluate the variability of rainfall in the four existing biomes in the Northeast Brazil(NEB)and their interaction with the ENSO climate variability mode and regional scale meteorological systems via CHELSA product. For this, monthly rainfall data were used from 1979 to 2013,with a spatial resolution of 1 km×1 km of the CHELSA product, and seasonal and annual rainfall patterns were extracted via boxplot. It was found that the rainy season in the Amazon,Caatinga and Cerrado biomes occurred between January and April, with varying intensities, except for the Atlantic Forest.Such seasonality patterns are associated with the NEB meteorological systems, with emphasis on ITCZ(all Biomes),UTCV(Amazon,Caatinga and Cerrado),Frontal Systems(extreme south of Caatinga,Cerrado and Atlantic Forest)and EWD/TWD in the(Atlantic Forest). In the inter-annual scale, the remarkable influence of ENSO was verified, mainly in the years 1983,1985,1989,1993,1998,2009 and 2012.It is noteworthy that 1985 was the wettest year of the period, with a surplus in all biomes, while the driest year differs between the Amazon(1983),Atlantic Forest and Caatinga(1993)and Cerrado(2012)biomes.The study via orbital product in NEB showed that anthropogenic processes and natural variability interfere with the forms of rain interception in the biomes and hence in rainfall patterns and water recycling in NEB.

文摘Agents of human chromoblastomycosis,a skin disease almost exclusively caused by members of the order Chaetothyriales, are assumed to be traumatically inoculated into the skin with sharp environmental materials such as plant thorns or wooden splinters carrying the respective opportunist. In the supposition that such fungi should have their main habitat in the environment,we investigated the occurrence of black fungi in living areas of patients with chromoblastomycosis. In South America Fonsecaea agents are prevalent as agents of the disease, while also related Cladophialophora species, known from other types of skin infections, are known from the continent.Ninety environmental isolates were preliminarily selected as possible agents of chromoblastomycosis, based on morphology.Judging from ITS sequence data isolates were attributed to the genera Cladophialophora,Cyphellophora,Exophiala,Fonsecaea,Phialophora, and Veronaea.A total of 45 fungi morphologically identified as Fonsecaea or Cladophialophora isolated from debris and thorns of living prickly plants in Brazil were processed for taxonomic studies.Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the isolates indeed belonged to the Chaetothyriales, but only rarely an agent of chromoblastomycosis was concerned;only two strains of F.pedrosoi and one F.monophora were isolated from debris plants. The remaining isolates belonged to hitherto unknown molecular siblings of Fonsecaea. Two novel taxa are introduced.

文摘Mammals can show conspicuous behavioral responses to thermal variation, including changes in movement patterns. We used an integrative approach to understand how environmental temperature can drive the movement behavior of a mammal with low capacity for physiological thermoregulation, the giant anteater(Myrmecophaga tridactyla). We tracked 52 giant anteaters in 7 areas throughout the Brazilian savannah. We estimated the distance moved, area used, use of forest areas, and mean environmental temperature for each monitoring day of each individual. We modeled these data with Mixed Structural Equations—considering the possible interactions between our variables and controlling for sex and body mass.Giant anteaters reduced displacement and increased forest use with decreasing environmental temperature, probably because of their low body heat production. It is possible that they reduce distance moved and area used by reducing the duration of activity. With decreasing temperature, forest habitats become warmer than open ones, besides buffer rain and chilly winds.Reducing displacement and using forests are important strategies to reduce body heat loss and the energetic costs of thermoregulation. However, decreasing movement can limit food access and, consequently, fitness. Therefore,we highlight the importance of forests as thermal shelters. With increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events,we showed the need to preserve forest patches to offer suitable conditions for tropical mammals’behavioral thermoregulation. In this context, policies favoring deforestation on Brazilian territory are especially worrisome. Finally,we emphasize the need of integrative approaches to understand the complex interactions between organisms and the environment.
