The effects of grain refining on the morphology and the grain size of the primary α phase in the slurry manufactured are researched. The results indicate that the slurry with particle-like and rosette-like primary α phases can be prepared by low superheat pouring and slight electromagnetic stirring from liquid A356 alloy grain-refined, in which the pouring temperature can be suitably raised. Compared with the A356 samples without grain refining, the grain size and particle morphology of primary α phase as well as the distribution of the grain with particle-like or rosette-like along radial in the ingot in A356 are markedly improved by grain refining.展开更多

The effects of pouring temperature on the slurry prepared by the technology are investigated. The results indicate that it is feasible to prepare the slurry with globular primary phases by low superheat pouring and slightly electromagnetic stirring, and that the pouring temperature has an important effect on the morphology and the size of primary α-AI in ZL101 alloy. By applying suitable slightly electromagnetic stirring combining with relatively increased pouring temperature, i.e., in a practical way to apply low superheat pouring technology, is capable of obtaining appropriate semi-solid slurry of ZL101 alloy with globular shape of primary phase. Compared with the samples made by low superheat pouring only without stirring, the samples prepared by applying both slightly electromagnetic stirring and low superheat pouring can enable to achieve the same grain size and morphology of the primary phase with that of pouring at 15-35℃ higher.展开更多

From the year of 1949 to the present, the China national coal output has been increasing quickly and became first in the world in 2009. But at the same time, major coal mining accidents still exist nowadays. In order ...From the year of 1949 to the present, the China national coal output has been increasing quickly and became first in the world in 2009. But at the same time, major coal mining accidents still exist nowadays. In order to review the overall situation and provide information on major accidents of coal mines in China, we investigated 26 major coal mining accidents in China between the years of 1949 and 2009 through statistical methods, each of which led to more than 100 fatalities. Statistical characteristics about accident-related factors such as time, death toll, accident reasons, characters and nature of enterprise were analyzed. And some special conclusions have been achieved. For example, although we have made great progress, the safety situation in China coal mining industry is still serious, and the reasons for the mining accidents are all human errors which are not inevitable. Such results may be helpful to prevent major accidents in coal mines. Moreso, based on both the knowledge of other countries which have good safety situation nowadays and the safety management situation of China, we made suggestion on safety management of China coal mining. In conclusion, countermeasures were proposed in accordance with the results of statistical studies and the analyses of problems existed in coal mines, including the perfec- tion of safety supervision organization, the establishment of cooperating agency among government, coal mines and workers, the perfection of safety rules and regulations, the improvement of safety investment, the enhancement of safety training, the development of safety technique, and the development of emer- gency rescue technique and equipment.展开更多

The efficiency factor and total energy of milling are calculated. MoSi2 synthesized by a mechanically induced self-propagating reaction has also been studied according to different milling parameters, such as the number of balls and the ball to powder weight ratio. The results indicate that the efficiency factor is between 1.944 and 8.507 J/(g·s). A total milling energy of about 19.38–26.47 kJ/g is found to be necessary for the mechanically induced self-propagating reaction of a Mo:2Si powder mixture. The efficiency of milling energy transfer is about 3.3%–4.5%. The experiment and modeling show that the optimum condition for mechanical alloy-ing is a half full vial of balls.展开更多

For dislocation-free Ta crystal, all the thermodynamic properties considered are in good agreement with the results from exper- iments or higher level calculations. If dislocations are included in the Ta crystal, it is found that as the dislocation density increases, the hydrostatic pressure at the phase transition point of bcc-+hcp and hcp--+fcc decreases, while the Hugoniot temperature increases. Meanwhile, the impact pressure at the elastic-plastic transition point is found to depend on the crys- tallographic orientation of the pressure. As the dislocation density increases, the pressure of the elastic-plastic transition point decreases rapidly at the initial stage, then gradually decreases with the increase of the dislocation density.展开更多

The continuously cast slab surface inclusions and subsurface blisters have been significantly reduced. The distribution of bubbles in the slab is non-homogeneous in terms of both width and depth. The monitoring results received by the Polish ARAMIS M/E monitoring system and the monitodng instrument designed by the author's research group in the same colliery show that the events amount received by conventional MS monitoring instrument which is only about 1/20 of the MS monitoring events, and it can only describe violent activity in larger range and be only applied to monitor hard and thick surrounding rock under mine. Meanwhile the small scale and high precision MS monitoring instrument can receive a lot of low rock fracturing signals, which can actualize the rock movement inversion and precisely descdbe 4-D changes of stress fields, and depend on the observed results we can determine the upper limits of mining and describe S-shaped strata spatial structure and high stress field in Iongwall face surrounded by two sides mined areas.展开更多

The magnesia based curable specimens with different Si3N4 contents were casted using sintered magnesite (w(MgO)=95%) as starting material, SiO2 micro-powder as binder, 0.3%, 4% and 5% β-Si3N4 powder replacing the...The magnesia based curable specimens with different Si3N4 contents were casted using sintered magnesite (w(MgO)=95%) as starting material, SiO2 micro-powder as binder, 0.3%, 4% and 5% β-Si3N4 powder replacing the equal addition of magnesia powder respectively. The slag resistance test was carried out at 1550℃ for 3h using Baosteel tundish slag and static crucible method. The result indicates that: introducing Si3N4 could obviously improve the slag resistance of MgO based castable, which increased with increasing Si3N4. Dense SiO2 sintered layer formed on the surface of magnesia based castable because of the oxidation of Si3N4 addition, which can prevent the further slag penetration. In the deep inner of castable, the partial-pressure of oxygen was very low, so Si3N4 can exist stably. Meanwhile in reducing atmosphere, Si3N4 was hard to be sintered, which resulted in the loose interior structure of MgO based castable.展开更多

Transmittance spectra were first taken using Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) for the samples with p = 234 kg/m^3. Specific extinction coefficient spectra were then obtained by applying Beer's law. Finally, by using the diffusion approximation, the specific Rossland mean extinction coefficients and radiative thermal conductivities were obtained for various temperatures. The results show that the specific spectral extinction coefficient of xonotlite is larger than 7 m^2/kg in the whole measured spectra, and diffusion approximation equation is a reasonable description of radiative heat transfer in xonotlite insulation material. The specific Rossland mean extinction coefficient of xonotlite has a maximum value at 400 K and the radiative thermal conductivity is almost proportional to the cube of temperature.展开更多
