All samples contain a resolvable component of mantle-derived 3He. Occurrence of mantle-derived 3He coincides with surface volcanism. However, 3He occurs over a larger geographic areathan do surface volcanics. δ13C values for CO2 and CH4 vary from -33.4‰ to 1.6 ‰ and from -52.8‰ to -2.8‰, respectively. He and C isotope systematics indicate that CO2 and CH4 in the CO2-rich gases originated predominantly from magmatic component mixed with crustal CO2 produced from carbonate. However, breakdown of organic matter and near-surface processes accounts for the CH4 and CO2 in N2-rich gases. 3He/4He ratio distribution pattern suggests that mantle-derived He and heat sources of high-temperature system in central Tengchong originate from a hidden magma reservoir at subsurface. CO2-rich gases with the highest 3He/4He ratio (5.2 Ra) may be representative of the Tengchong magmatic component. Compared with MORB, this relative low 3He/4He ratio could be fully attributed to either deep crustal contamination, or radioactive aging, or past contamination of the local mantle by U- and Th-rich subducted crustal material. However, a combination of low 3He/4He, high radiogenic 4He/40Ar ratio and identical CO2/3He and δ13Cco2 relative to MORB may suggest addition of prior subductedd crsustal material (ca 1 %-2%) to the MORB reservoir around 1.3 Ga ago, which is essentially compatible with the LIL-elements, and Sr-Nd-Pb isotopes of volcanic rocks.展开更多
AIM: To investigate whether vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was over-expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or in surrounding cirrhotic liver tissues.METHODS: Immunohistochemistry was performed to inves...AIM: To investigate whether vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was over-expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or in surrounding cirrhotic liver tissues.METHODS: Immunohistochemistry was performed to investigate the expression of VEGF proteins in HCC tissues from 105 consecutive patients undergoing curative resection for HCC. The immunostaining results and related clinicopathologic materials were analyzed with statistical methods. Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate survival curves, and Log-rank test was performed to compare differences in survival rates of the patients with positive HCC staining and negative VEGF.RESULTS: VEGF-positive expression was found in 72 of105 HCC patients (68.6%). Capsular infiltration (P= 0.005),vascular invasion (P = 0.035) and intrahepatic metastasis(P=0.008) were observed more frequently in patients with VEGF-positive expression than in those with VEGFnegative expression. Kaplan-Meier curves showed that VEGF-positive expression was associated with a shorter overall survival (P = 0.014). VEGF-positive expression was found in 47 of tissues 68 HCC (69.1%), and VEGF-positive expression was found in 54 of 68 surrounding cirrhotic liver tissues (79.4%). VEGF-positive expression was significantly higher in surrounding cirrhotic liver tissues than in HCC (P= 0.017).CONCLUSION: VEGF may play an important role in the angiogenesis and prognosis of HCC, as well as in the angiogenesis of liver cirrhosis.展开更多

Equations of motion for a maneuvering flight of an insect were derived. These equations were applied for analyzing the maneuvering flight. Inertial forces and moments acting on a body and wings were estimated by using these equations and the measured motions of the body and the wings. The results indicated the following characteristics of this flight: (1)The phase difference in flapping motion between the two fore wings and two hind wings, and the phase difference between the flapping motion and the feathering motion of the four wings are equal to those in a steady forward flight with the maximum efficiency. Of 205 cases, 11% were infected by HBV and 83% by HCV, indicating practically the most (94%) being infected. In order to eradicate HCV in chronic carrier who may eventually progress to hepatocellular carcinoma, interferon treatment was started nationwide in 1992. Approximately 200,000 Japanese patients were treated so far, and among those, HCV was eradicated in 30%. The presence of significant differences in virus amounts and genotypes between responders and noresponders were shown by molecular techniques.展开更多

SKG mouse,as a model of spontaneous rheumatoid arthritis (RA) bred recent years,is similar to the patients with RA.We analyzed the clonotypes of T cell infiltrating into joints of SKG mice in initial stage and late st...SKG mouse,as a model of spontaneous rheumatoid arthritis (RA) bred recent years,is similar to the patients with RA.We analyzed the clonotypes of T cell infiltrating into joints of SKG mice in initial stage and late stage of RA by using reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and subsequent single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP).The results indicated that the percentages of clonotypes TCR Vβ2 and Vβ8.2 of T cell clonotypes increased obviously to 72.3% and 60.2%,respectively.Mice number with identical TCR Vβ2 and Vβ8.2 clonotypes also clearly increased in late stage of disease to 100% and 75%,respectively. These results mean that T cells with TCR Vβ2 and Vβ8.2 clonotypes probably play an important role in RA progression of SKG mouse.Sequencing of the extracted DNA verified that common bands on SSCP gel were derived from the same T cell clones among samples from different joints.The results we obtained implied that RT-PCR/SSCP method was a sensitive and credible method for analyzing T cell clonotypes.When the T cells of SKG mouse were adoptively transferred to a nude mouse,it was verified that the T cells infiltrating into joints were related to morbid formation of RA.Cellular & Molecular Immunology.2004;1(4):300-303.展开更多
