Most of the studies have beenfocusing on analyzes of the differences in ionic channels and currents among theepicardial-, mid-myocardial-(M) and endocardial myocytes, and the rate-dependent (adaptation) characteristics of APD. We have found that the change in APD during achange in frequency of stimulation mostly reflects a change in rate of repolarization at distinct membrane potential levels. We assumed that in the myocytes, there is balancing mechanism, which is constantly adjusting the various ionic currents accommodating to the changing conditions. This intrinsic ability of adaptation is important and may offer some of the consequences of the transmural heterogeneity in adaptation of APD. This adaptive behaviors maybe equally important in maintaining the normal electrophysiological properties and in induction of arrhythmia in a case of error in normal adaptation. Though most studies of Na +/Ca 2+ exchange (NCX) has been emphasized on its reverse activaty during pathyological condition. Our hypothesis is that reverse activaty of NCX also plays an important role in adjusting the repolarization of AP during a physiological condition. A mismatch between action potential (AP) repolarization and relaxation of the contraction can be caused by intracellular Ca 2+ transport abnormalities. Ca 2+ influx via reverse activation of NCX can load the sarcoplasmic recticulum (SR), which has arrhythmogenic effect. Methods We studied the single myocytes from the left ventricle of adult mongrel dogs. During the cell separation, collagenase was perfused through LAD by Langandorff system. We use the patch-clamp system to determinded AP in current clamp mode. Myocyte contraction was imaged by a video camera, shortening of unloaded myocytes was detected by a video edge motion detector, using changes in light intensity at the edges of the myocyte. Results From 60 consecutive recorded APs at a constant 1.0 Hz stimulation under steady state conditions we found there is a variance in the repolarization between 10mV and-40mV. We also found the variance in the APD during the rate adaptation range of repolarization. Fluctuation in the transient may contribute to the APD variability. To test thishypothesis we block the transient by intracellular dialysis with 10 mM EGTA(n=19), this caused a significant reduction in the coefficient variability (CV=SD/mean APD%) from 2.3± 0.8 to 1.3± 0.3 P< 0.01. During a rate change of the stimulation from 0.6 Hz to 1.0 Hz. The AP duration increased from 278±8 msec to 320±9 msec, Mean+SD, n=5, 50 APs, P< 0.05. contraction is accompanied by an after-contraction(A-CON). The relaxation of contraction precedes the repolarization of the AP. We assumed that the enhancement of repolarization and the production of after-contraction can be possibly induced by reverse mode of NCX. Reducing [Na +] o by substitution of 40mM Na + with Li + favors NCX activating the reverse mode, which significantly decreased the dome of the AP from 4.8± 0.3 to -10.6± 1.2mV, P< 0.05, and increased the APD from 330±13 to 368±14 msec. P< 0.05.Conclusions Intracellular calcium transient most likely contributes to the beat-to-beat variance of action potential duration in canine ventricular myocyte. And it attributes to the voltage-dependent switch of NCX mode. Calcium concentration is high inmyocytes during the repolarization, and high intracellular Ca 2+ activates NCX in such a manner, that it generates an inward (positive, depolarizing) current. This current works against the repolarization, it is prolonging it, with other words it increases the duration of the action potential. The magnitude of calcium concentration during repolarization is very much dependent on calcium transport in the SR. The calcium transport in the SR is subject to adrenergic actions, and other physiologic and pathologic regulators. Under pathologic conditions展开更多

Typically, the fermented product is boiled into a pap or cooked into a stiff porridge. However, the fermented product can not be easily handled or stored and does not have a long shelf life (typically less than a week). Dehydrating the fermented product into flour is one of the ways that is being employed to overcome these problems. Equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of dehydrated sorghum flour (aka "ogi") was therefore determined at two temperatures of 25℃ and 40℃ and four salt solutions. Zinc chloride (ZnCl2), potassium acetate (KC2H3O2), calcium chloride (CaCl2) and sodium chloride (NaCl) salts were prepared to correspond to equilibrium relative humidities of 10.0% to 75.4%. The moisture sorption characteristics of the sorghum product showed the characteristics S-shaped sorption isotherm curve that is typically obtained for agricultural products. The equilibrium data and the monomolccular layer moisture content values were estimated using the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) equation. The moisture content range for optimum storage of the dehydrated sorghum flour lies between 2.84% to 3.69% at 25℃ and 6.84% and 7.67% at 40℃. The information obtained from this study will help in the design and selection of storage and packaging systems for dehydrated sorghum flour.展开更多

The advantage of this hybrid COMS over a bare COMS is that the frequency of the second mode is controlled by the s-wave scattering interaction. Based on the traditional linearization approximation, we derive analytical solutions for the output transmission intensity of the probe field and the dimensionless amplitude of the second-order sideband(SS). The numerical results show that the transmission intensity of the probe field and the dimensionless amplitude of the SS can be controlled by the s-wave scattering frequency. Furthermore, the control field intensities, the effective detuning, the effective coupling strength of the cavity field with the Bogoliubov mode are used to control the transmission intensity of the probe field and the dimensionless amplitude of the SS.展开更多

Since states and organizations are made up of people, these interactions are influenced by human nature. This is the same for Sino-U.S. relations as can be seen by recent developments which show the influences of human thinking and cultural values. The improvement seen in their relations has been cemented by a fostering of mutual understanding and commonality of cultural values. Positive development acquired during diplomatic interactions offer useful lessons for future cooperation. Relations between China and the U.S. can be further improved by learning from history, having a clearer perception and building mutual trust.展开更多

Until recently regarded as a “simple” dengue-like infection, it nowadays turned into a real challenge to Public Health around the world. The Zika Epidemic shows a quick spread, affects unprepared health systems, and presents with severe neurological complications of newborns—a concrete threat to pregnancies. This re-emerging infectious disease is a source of deep doubts and harsh debates regarding Public Health and even bioethical issues. Several doubts still remain on how to deal with the various possible transmission ways of the disease, the surge of a generation of thousands of microcephalic newborns (and questions on how to handle them within limited health systems), and severe malformations concentrated so far in Northeastern Brazil. Finally, a debate is raised about how the “Endemic State” of Brazil, deeply merged in a health care crisis for almost 40 years now, currently confronts 3 current epidemics of the arboviruses Dengue, Chikungunya and now Zika, all associated with a lack of basic sanitation. Brazil must deal with these biological threats in the context of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, since Chikungunya has probably been brought to Brazil during the FIFA Soccer World Cup (2014) and Zika Virus spread is associated with the Soccer Confederations Cup (2013).展开更多

It is defined as any level of glucose intolerance, appearing or first being recognized during pregnancy. It is essential to diagnose and treat GDM early, in order to reduce or avoid complications for mother and fetus. Recently, new guidelines have changed the diagnosis criteria, and it is expected that the prevalence of GDM will increase by approximately 18%. A relevant goal of these new definitions is to provide a better care for pregnant women, in an attempt to reduce fetal and maternal complications. These new criteria will also increase the impact on costs of the health care system. Treatment must be individualized for best results, including a specific diet, physical activity and the use of medications. Metformin and Insulin use are analyzed in detail, in face of new evidences regarding their safety and efficacy during pregnancy.展开更多

Their prevalence has steadily increased since the eighties. Today, more than 50% of the population are overweight, 15% has obesity and 6% to 15% has diabetes. The nutrition transition is a long-term process that brings chronic metabolic diseases as an undesired consequence, whilst ultra processed foods become increasingly part of daily food choices. These changes bring impacts in all fields of daily life, especially in the economic and legal fields—the “Right to Health”—and regarding autonomy of the individual and their choices, when confronted with an ideal of health and well-being. Governments and citizens struggle to propose new pathways and find effective solutions to control both epidemics and solve these issues. This article poses the evolution of diabetes and obesity in the Mercosur, seeking a better understanding of these chronic, non-communicable diseases, and looking for concrete, effective solutions towards health in South America.展开更多

In 2002 there were 173 million diabetic adults worldwide, and these numbers are expected to reach up to 300 million people by 2030. Meanwhile, vitamin D deficiency has its worldwide prevalence directly influenced by factors as solar radiation, skin color, latitude and seasons, cultural habits of populations such as clothing and food, and these factors are important to explain the different prevalences of vitamin D deficiency in the world. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional cohort study was conducted with patients in the outpatient clinic of the Health Unit of the city of Mangueirinha, Paraná, Southern Brazil. Fifty-four type 2 diabetic patients were evaluated (38 women and 16 men), aged 55.8 ± 12.6 years. The following variables were evaluated: age, ethnicity, presence of type 2 diabetes (DM2), hypertension, dyslipidemia, weight, BMI, WC, blood pressure, blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, ionized calcium, PTH, 25-OH Vit, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, urea, creatinine, uric acid and red cell/hematocrit. Results: mean BMI was 30.2 ± 4.4 kg/m2, indicating class 1 obesity in this population. Fasting glucose levels were approximately 169.8 ± 74.5 mg/dL. The 25-OH vitamin D values for this population were 23.4 ± 8.3 ng/mL, and 13% of them showed 25-OH vitamin D levels above 30 mg/dL. Fifty percent of those patients had vitamin D levels lower than 30 mg/dL, and 37% had less than 20 mg/dL. Conclusions: this study suggests that vitamin D is associated with low levels of vitamin D in type 2 diabetic patients. Supplementation of vitamin D should be considered in diabetic patients, when levels under 30 mg/mL are found.展开更多

People' s values are constantly changing, more and more people realize that participate in physical exercise for their own importance in sports. The status of people' s lives has been greatly improved, for most residents; they participate in physical activity and have gradually become a richer cultural life, and they enhance the basic needs of physical, mental lifelong sports have gradually deep heart. While people continue to enhance the sports consciousness exercise, we also see some potential problems, such as the rapid development of science and technology is to bring more and more problems to people. As people, enjoy the level of automation in the material aspects of life. They gradually have cars, telephones, washing machines, refrigerators, microwave ovens, rice cookers. And the household products go into our lives, we enjoy the material on those by making more and more people gradually reduce the daily activities. And the most prominent is the elevators and cars, reducing active time and the amount of activity, a lot of heat stored in the human body is causing various diseases, from the results of medical research over the past decade. Various diseases associated with obesity have been become the most important factor in human deaths worldwide, the rapid emergence of this disease and the rapid development of social science and technology form a clear lack of coordination, for which many experts at home and abroad for such issues of deep study and research.展开更多

Under pathologic conditions
文摘Two-dimensional properties of grain boundaries in germanium bicrystals are studied at liquid helium temperature ranging from 1.6 to 4.2 K.The experimental results indicate that the magnetoresistivity for 8°tilt angle increases exponentially with the magnetic held intensity square in weak magnetic field and with the linear magnetic field intensity in strong magnetic field. The phenomena are explainable with the percolation theory.

文摘The global recession has spread;Chinese foreign trade enterprises have encountered more frequent disputes overseas.China's unique weight in today s international trade patterns,as well as its competitive exports, make China a major target of dispute litigations under various names. Some of these cases go beyond the terms of WTO rules and the scope of relief provisions. The resurgence of trade protectionism trend seems to be making a comeback.
文摘Dehydrated sorghum flour ("ogi") is useful as additional ingredient in certain food and pharmaceutical formulation, this could be obtained by soaking sorghum in water for 3 to 4 days, wet milling the soaked material, and fermentation for another 3 to 4 days. The information obtained from this study will help in the design and selection of storage and packaging systems for dehydrated sorghum flour.

文摘We theoretically investigated a second-order optomechanical-induced transparency(OMIT) process of a hybrid optomechanical system(COMS), which a Bose-Einstein condensate(BEC) in the presence of atom-atom interaction trapped inside a cavity with a moving end mirror. Furthermore, the control field intensities, the effective detuning, the effective coupling strength of the cavity field with the Bogoliubov mode are used to control the transmission intensity of the probe field and the dimensionless amplitude of the SS.
文摘International relations are interactions mainly between states and between international organizations. Relations between China and the U.S. can be further improved by learning from history, having a clearer perception and building mutual trust.
文摘The current knowledge of the Zika Virus epidemic clearly lacks a comprehensive understanding of its determinants and clinical outcomes. Brazil must deal with these biological threats in the context of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, since Chikungunya has probably been brought to Brazil during the FIFA Soccer World Cup (2014) and Zika Virus spread is associated with the Soccer Confederations Cup (2013).
文摘Gestational mellitus diabetes (GDM) is a highly prevalent metabolic disorder among pregnant women nowadays. Metformin and Insulin use are analyzed in detail, in face of new evidences regarding their safety and efficacy during pregnancy.
文摘Diabetes and obesity are major health hazards in Latin America nowadays. This article poses the evolution of diabetes and obesity in the Mercosur, seeking a better understanding of these chronic, non-communicable diseases, and looking for concrete, effective solutions towards health in South America.

文摘Background: Diabetes mellitus is a worldwide epidemic. Supplementation of vitamin D should be considered in diabetic patients, when levels under 30 mg/mL are found.
文摘Since the 1980s, people' s material and spiritual life are constantly enriched and improved. Various diseases associated with obesity have been become the most important factor in human deaths worldwide, the rapid emergence of this disease and the rapid development of social science and technology form a clear lack of coordination, for which many experts at home and abroad for such issues of deep study and research.
