Simple GNSS navigation receivers, developed for the mass market, can be used for positioning with sub centimeter accuracy in a wireless sensor network if the read-out of the carrier phase data is possible and all data is permanently broadcast to a central computer for near real time processing of the respective base lines. Experiences gained in two research projects related to landslide monitoring are depicted in terms of quality and reliability of the results by the developed approach. As far as possible a modular system set up with commercial off-the-shelf components, e.g., standard WLAN fur commtmication, solar batteries with solar panels for autarkic power supply and in cooperation of existing proofed program tools is chosen. The challenge of the still ongoing development is to have a flexible and robust GNSS based sensor network available - concerned not only for landslide monitoring in future. 展开更多

The identification of the critical infrastructure has shown that the build civil engineering infrastructure is almost involved everywhere, even with the IT-infrastructure. Therefore, the passive safety of structures is demanded. Security associations have analysed that most assaults came along with explosion and impact scenarios, which amount in 80% of assaults. Consequently, these are the extraordinary loads the structures have to be planned and designed for. To carry out such an engineering job, the engineer has to be educated in multiple disciplines as physics, material science , continuum mechanics, numerical mechanics, testing, structural engineering and related specific fields as wave propagation etc. In this paper we will concentrate on the subjects of numerical simulation and testing. 展开更多

A Method for the Solution of the 2D-Oswatitsch Equations

Corresponding to Oswatitsch’s Mach number independence principle the Mach number of hypersonic inviscid flows, , does not affect components of various non-dimensional formulations such as velocity and density, pressure coefficients and Mach number behind a strong shock. On this account, the principle is significant in the development process for hypersonic vehicles. Oswatitsch deduced a system of partial differential equations which describes hypersonic flow. These equations are the basic gasdynamic equations as well as Crocco’s theorem which are reduced for the case of very high Mach numbers, . Their numerical solution can not only result in simplified algorithms prospectively utilized to describe the flow around bodies flying mainly in the lower stratosphere with very high Mach numbers. It also offers a deeper understanding of similarity effects for hypersonic flows. In this paper, a solution method for Oswatisch’s equations for perfect gas, based on a 4-step Runge-Kutta-algorithm, is presented including a fast shock-fitting procedure. An analysis of numerical stability is followed by a detailed comparison of results for different Mach numbers and ratios of the specific heats. 展开更多

Numerical investigations of the Darmstadt transonic single stage compressor (DTC), in the Rotor1-Stator1 configuration, aimed at advancing the understanding of the effect of different rotor tip gaps and transition modelling on the blade surfaces are presented. Steady three dimensional Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) simulations were performed to obtain the flow fields for the different configurations at different operating conditions using the RANS-Solver TRACE. The stage geometry and the multi-block structured grid were generated by G3DMESH and a grid sensitivity analysis was conducted. For the clearance gap region, a fully gridded special H-grid was chosen. Comparisons were made between the flow characteristic at design speed, representative for a transonic flow regime, and at 65% speed, representative for a subsonic flow regime. The computations were used to analyse the flow phenomena through the tip clearance region for the different configurations and their impact on the performance of the compressor stage. 展开更多

Simple navigation receivers can be used for positioning with sub-centimeter accuracy in a wireless sensor network if the read-out of the carrier phase(CP)data is possible and all data are permanently broadcast to a central processing computer.At this base station an automated near real-time processing takes place and a precise differential GNSS-based positioning of the involved sensor nodes is computed.The paper describes the technical principles of such a system with its essential demands for the sensing,the communication,and the computing components.First experiences in a research project related to landslide monitoring are depicted.Of course the developed system can also be embedded for location finding in a widespread multifunctional geo sensor network.The quality of the obtained result is restricted due to the fact that the CP measurements must be recorded over a certain time span,usually a few minutes for every independent position solution.As far as possible a modular structure with commercial off-theshelf components,e.g.standard wireless local area network for communication,and in cooperation of existing proofed and powerful program tools is chosen.Open interfaces are used as far as possible. 展开更多

The development of structural materials resistant to harsh radiation environments requires an in-depth understanding of the early stage of the aging processes.In radiation environments with high transmutation helium production rates such as in fusion and spallation applications,even materials with otherwise acceptable radiation stability may suffer from radiation embrittlement related to helium bubble formation.While theoretical modeling of helium-assisted cavity nucleation in pure metals and simple alloys provides some useful guidelines at the atomic scale level,these,however,do not overlap with the size resolution of available experimental techniques.In this study,we employed slow positron beam spectroscopy to characterize the nucleation and growth of nano-scale helium bubbles in martensitic steels strengthened by thermodynamically stable nano-oxide dispersoids.In combination with transmission electron microscopy,we experimentally characterized the evolution of helium bubbles from small clusters of radiation-induced vacancies to large cavities well resolvable by TEM.Superior radiation resistance of oxide-dispersion strengthened steels dominates only in the early stages of bubble evolution,where positron lifetime measurements provide a missing piece of the microstructural puzzle conventionally constructed by TEM. 展开更多
