The world is facing the energy challenge to over-reliance to fossil-fuels,the development of renewable energy is inevitable.From a clean and economic view,enhanced geothermal system(EGS)provides an effective mean to u...The world is facing the energy challenge to over-reliance to fossil-fuels,the development of renewable energy is inevitable.From a clean and economic view,enhanced geothermal system(EGS)provides an effective mean to utilize geothermal energy to generate.Different form the conventional hydro geothermal,the host rock of EGS is Hot Dry Rock(HDR),which buries deeper with high temperature(more than 180°C).The generation of EGS is promising.The development of EGS can be combined with the tech Power to geothermal energy.Exceed power is supposed to drive fluid working in HDR layer to obtain geothermal energy for generation.The whole article can be divided into three parts.In the first art,evaluation indexes of EGS as well as pilot EGs Projects(e.g.Fenton Hill and Basel)and exiting EGS project(e.g.Paralana and Newberry)are summarized,which points a general impression on EGS site.The dominate indexes are heat flow,geothermal gradient and thermal storage.The second part is focused on the simulation methods and working fluids selection of EGS.A detailed comparison of the main simulation software(e.g.TOUGH2 and FEHM)is carried out.With the respect of working fluid selection,the comparison between water and CO2 is researched and CO2 is a preferred option for EGS development for less fluid loss and less dissolution to HDR.The art of CO2-EGS is introduced clearly in this part.The third part is about the addition consideration of EGS plant operation,it excludes auxiliary plant support and HSE management.展开更多

The prevalence of surface contaminants,such as potentially harmful bacteria,within building environments in the State of Kuwait is not known.To the authors’knowledge,this article is the first of such a report.A total...The prevalence of surface contaminants,such as potentially harmful bacteria,within building environments in the State of Kuwait is not known.To the authors’knowledge,this article is the first of such a report.A total of 342 stool samples were collected from 46 secondary schools to evaluate indoor occurrences of E.coli bacteria within selected lavatory surfaces.After microbiological testing,the results for the spread of the E.coli bacteria were categorized by total count,sampling location dependency,contamination level comparison between genders,and lavatory fixtures(i.e.seat and squat toilets).The results revealed that 7 schools have a bacterial contamination problem,there is cross-contamination between surfaces in the lavatory stalls,the boys’lavatories were less sanitary than the girls’,and that the squat-style toilets are more contaminated than the seat-style.The results suggest that there is significant risk of spread of bacterial infection among students via contaminated hands and surfaces in the lavatory area in some schools.Thus,this study emphasizes the need to improve environmental hygiene and enhanced sanitation in these schools.In addition,conclusions can be drawn as to the effectiveness of the janitorial staff employed by the schools and the efficacy of the cleaning regime used in the lavatories.Furthermore,based on the findings,there are architectural design consequences as squat-style toilets might be excluded in lavatories designed for schools to be constructed in the future.展开更多

This micro scale should be the urban environment in which the university is physically located. Therefore, today's universities should first strengthen their relationship with their immediate surrjoundings, starting from the nearest. Within the plurality, fluidity and complexity of social life, the process of building identities for individuals is an obligation. Similarly, public institutions also have to separate themselves from the context they are part of and establish their own identities. While doing so, university institutions put their special qualities in the foreground and design the representation of their institutional structures for the outside world. In this sense campus gates have great importance as the interface between city and university. These architectural constructions, which are designed as introductory buildings to repre-sent the university, are the places where physical interaction between city and university first takes place. In this study, indoor quality and environmental comfort were investigated in secondaiy school buildings located in the State of Kuwait. Comfort variables such as temperature and relative humidity (thermal comfort), no...In this study, indoor quality and environmental comfort were investigated in secondaiy school buildings located in the State of Kuwait. Comfort variables such as temperature and relative humidity (thermal comfort), noise (acoustic comfort), illumination (visual comfort), as well as allocated classroom floor area per student (spatial comfort) were measured. Data was collected over a 7-month period on a spot basis during school hours in student-occupied classrooms at 46 selected schools. The measured data was then compared to international guidelines and standards related to indoor environment quality. The data for noise and allocated space were shown to be in the comfort ranges in all the schools. However, 11% of the schools are not adequately illuminated, 33% had temperatures not within the recommended limits, and 22% of the schools had humidity levels either higher or lower than the recommended levels. Also, 9% of the schools had low illummation readings. In addition, during the data monitoring, a survey was conducted by which the student occupants completed a questionnaire so that subjective and objective evaluations could be compared. The findings of the questionnaire displayed significant correlations between the measured data and some ailments and other corr^laints experienced by the students. Ultimately, the results found in this research will provide a baseHne for comparison with future indoor environment quality assessments in buildings. Furthermore, recommendations are suggested in order to improve the environmental quality problems encountered in some of the schools, which may be beneficial for policymakers, facilities managers, and design engineers.展开更多

文摘The photovoltaic solar energy is comprised of many engineering disci-plines.Geotechnical engineering is one of those disciplines in which it has important functions in the solar photovoltaic technology and particularly for large scale projects which usually employed in open areas such as parks or deserts.The aim of this paper is to present in depth the role of the geotechnical engineering in the solar photovoltaic energy and clarifying the common challenges facing this technology in arid climate regions.It is found that the lack of specialised codes and specifi cations that needed for foundation design and in selecting the proper foundation types.This would significantly affect the development of this technology in terms of efficien-cy and performance of the proposed solar photovoltaic systems.The hot weather climate and induced stresses by wind speed are also critical issues that should be considered.In order to avoid the uncertainty of data such as soil properties,the use of numerical modelling techniques is an eff ective method to help determining the most proper parameters needed for design and analyse purposes.
文摘The treatment of loess foundation is always difficult.The analysis of its advantages and mechanism of treating loess foundation by CFG,on the base of project geology,through construction example,we suggest the compound plan by both DDC and CFG.The tests illustrates that the down hole deep compaction and cement-fly ash-gravel are effective foundation treatment method to eliminate the collapsibility of loess,increase the bearing capacity and improve the behavior of composite foundations.

This paper calculates the seismic performance of self-anchored suspen-sion bridge steel tower based on the application of Wuhan Gutian Bridge steel tower.

文摘In this study, indoor quality and environmental comfort were investigated in secondaiy school buildings located in the State of Kuwait. Comfort variables such as temperature and relative humidity (thermal comfort), noise (acoustic comfort), illumination (visual comfort), as well as allocated classroom floor area per student (spatial comfort) were measured. Data was collected over a 7-month period on a spot basis during school hours in student-occupied classrooms at 46 selected schools. The measured data was then compared to international guidelines and standards related to indoor environment quality. The data for noise and allocated space were shown to be in the comfort ranges in all the schools. However, 11% of the schools are not adequately illuminated, 33% had temperatures not within the recommended limits, and 22% of the schools had humidity levels either higher or lower than the recommended levels. Also, 9% of the schools had low illummation readings. In addition, during the data monitoring, a survey was conducted by which the student occupants completed a questionnaire so that subjective and objective evaluations could be compared. The findings of the questionnaire displayed significant correlations between the measured data and some ailments and other corr^laints experienced by the students. Ultimately, the results found in this research will provide a baseHne for comparison with future indoor environment quality assessments in buildings. Furthermore, recommendations are suggested in order to improve the environmental quality problems encountered in some of the schools, which may be beneficial for policymakers, facilities managers, and design engineers.
文摘With the continuous development and progress of China's social economy,the construction speed of our construction industry is also accelerating.Compared with the traditional cast-in-place reinforced concrete and masonry building,it has been unable to meet the requirements of the construction industry and the development of the times.Because the prefabricated building has the advantages of fast speed,water saving,land saving,noise reduction,material saving and energy saving in installation.Compared with traditional buildings,the prefabricated building is more energy efficient and practical.Therefore,the new type of precast assembly architecture is constantly highlighted and has become the mainstream of the development of the future construction industry.However,the technology started late in China,and the immature technology and imperfect supporting standards led to slow progress and even stagnation in China's construction industry.Through the analysis of the present situation and problems of the waterproof and sealing of the prefabricated building exterior walls,the suggestions for the healthy development of the construction industry in China are put forward in time.
